Ginny 83 was diagnosed last year with AD. Her symptoms are advancing. She is currently on Aricept, Namenda, Lexapro and Xanax along with Heart and blood pressure medications.

These have been prescribed by her Primary Care Physician. We are interested in finding a Alzheimer Specialist in Riverside County.

She is getting more aggitated and attempts to leave the house without her walker and such... I had to grab her arm to stop her from falling and am concerned what else we can do without just medicating her.

Samirae,

Our local chapter will be able to assist you in locating a geriatric specialist in your area. (After accessing the provided link, please enter your zip code to retrieve contact information for the appropriate local office.)

As for the issue of Ginny's safety and the related potential for wandering, I've attached a couple of Association brochures that offer a host of suggestions regarding home safety and preparing for and preventing wandering behavior. Of particular note thereto is the idea of installing locks relatively out of sight, i.e., placing deadbolts either high or low on exterior doors to make it difficult for the person to wander out of the house. I would also suggest that you keep walking areas inside the home clear and clutter-free to mitigate the risk of injury from falls.

And finally, if you haven't already, I would consider enrolling Ginny in our Safe Return program. You can call us at 1.888.572.8566 or reference the print material (in the link directly above) to learn more about this nationwide identification and community support program.
