I am curious, what benefit is there to knowing what stage of Alzheimer's your LO is in? Who makes the determination? I will be taking mom to her geriatric physician soon and was wondering if it was something I should bring up.
Thanks

JerseyLiz,

Caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease brings many questions about the disease process. The benefit of knowing the stage of Alzheimer’s a loved one is in helps the caregiver to provide quality care, learn how to communicate with someone with the illness and deal with some of the challenging behavior’s that a person may exhibit. A geriatric physician or neurologist determines what stage a person is in the disease process and assists the caregiver in providing a treatment plan for the person with Alzheimer’s. Please read our brochure on the stages of Alzheimer's so that you become familiar with them and facilitates you in asking questions on the next doctor visit. Also contact your local chapter for your nearest educational seminar and support group to help you better understand the progression of Alzheimer’s disease. Please contact us again if you have any questions or call our 24hr helpline at 1-800-272-3900.

Sincerely,

Griselda S, Care Consultant
