Thank you for the alert Lisa!

Here are somethings to try JanLan and anyone who is having the same problem with Chats

1) Go to http://alzheimers.infopop.cc/eve/cookies
2) Choose option 2 & say yes to the prompts
3) Clear your Browser Cache
4) Close then Re Open the Browser
5) Re-Log into the site and try to log into chat
6) If the above do not help, Re-Install the Flash client for the Browser.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, please write back with the following:

1) The type/version of your operating system
2) The type/version of your browser
3) Whether you're accessing the internet through a firewall or proxy servier
4) Your flash version. This can be obtained here:

Snowy did you attemp the cookie soluction that was posted for anyone having issue with chatroom. If anyone in administration blocked you, you would be told why so that would not be the issue here. We want you to be able to get on and chat. Please read instructions for cookie to chatroom and see if that is issue.
thanks and good luck,
Sheryl

SnowyLynne, yesterday was a bad day, and I really needed someone to talk to. My screen says "done", then I wait for a few minutes and finally a little window pops up and says, "unable to establish a connection." At least you were able to get a LITTLE bit farther than I. What gives? No reply from the IT people either. Confused

I had a problem accessing the chat room a while ago. I had to Uninstall Adobe Flash, then Re-Install the latest Adobe Flash. Then I could log on.

Iris,
I did everything twice with the same result. I am wondering, could it be the firewall? Not computer saavy, so not sure if that could be it.

SnowyLynne, did you disable your firewall at all? Could it be that? I guess we have to play detective here and figure it out on our own. Roll Eyes

Hello, So sorry for chat issues. The main issue I have when I can't get in is my pop up blocker. I have to turn it off.
Maybe this can help??
Hope so.

I have had one hell of a day so let me end it this way, what is the sense of having a forum for technical problems when no one there replies or tries to help. Ya know guys, by being able to talk in chat, ya MIGHT save someone's life. Does that get your attention? Sorry for being bitchy, just a very rough day. Frowner

We are so sorry for the delay in our replies and that you had such a bad day!

We are working with Live Cloud to uncover why so many are not able to access the chat rooms. It seems that each issue could be caused by a different problem.

Snowylynne: You had answered the questions we needed but we need to know specifically what version of Adode Falsh you have. It will be a version and number for example MAC 12.34.5. Your flash version can be obtained here:
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/155/tn_15507.html

We will look into the specifics about needed to shut off the firewall, and if that is what Dazed you may be facing. Dazed, if you could please answer the following questions, it helps to uncover what you may be faced with

Pease write back with the following information:

1) The type/version of your operating system
2) The type/version of your browser
3) Whether you're accessing the internet through a firewall or proxy server
4) Your flash version. This can be obtained here:
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/155/tn_15507.html

We intended to check this forum daily, and apologize once again for our delays.

Please know you can also email your questions to onlinecom@alz.org

Hope we can make this work!

For all of you who may be frustrated and unable to access the chat room, please read the following info.

In order to successfully use chat, the following conditions need to be met:

1) The user's browser must be able to accept/store persistent cookies.
2) The user's browser should have the latest version of Flash installed. Not just Flash, but the latest version.
3) The user's browser should have the latest Javascript. Again, not just Javascript, but the latest version.
4) The user's internet connection should have access to port 8080.
5) The user's internet connection should not have a high degree of latency. (Such as the latency that comes with a satellite connection).

In many cases, the user may think that these conditions are met, but be mistaken. The port issue is often missed. If the user is trying to connect from work, it's possible that their IT department has closed port 8080.

A home firewall may do the same thing. It may be that the user doesn't have the expertise to diagnose these issues themselves. The user should consult with the manufacturers of their firewall if they're unsure how it works. Shutting the firewall off completely would be a decision they would need to make for themselves.

Hope this will help guide some of you to be able to access the chat rooms!

Please let us know if there are more questions!

OCA, I have the newest version of Adobe Flash (the latest version) WIN 10,0,32,18 with Windows
XP, Internet Explorer and Firewall. I do have stellite and know nothing about an 8080 port. I checked my programs and don't have Javascript. Typed in latest Javascript and I get thousands of links. Any help out there deciding?

OCA,I downloaded Javascript 6 which I believe is the latest version. Can you tell us how to find port 8080 and see if it is on? Too bad this is not as easy as Yahoo IM.

I'm sorry Dazed for not responding sooner about gremlin's reply. His answer was to check the pop-up blocker, which sheryl already spoke about.

Sometimes it takes me two or three tries to log into the chat room. The one time I had a problem logging in had to do with the Adobe Flash. I had to uninstall then re-install the new version, and it worked fine after that.

Hi Dazed,

I am sorry downloading java, and other updates did not do the trick!

It is quite complicated to see if your port 8080 is on, and it can be different with different internet providers. Please call your internet provider and ask for their assistance in not only making sure port 8080 is on. Also use that time with your internet provider to also discuss the possibility that the Satellite service could be interfering with the connection to the chats, because of the latency issues.

Messages are sent to satellites from your computer and then back down to the needed location on the ground. This process can cause latency issues- meaning it can take information longer to travel. This causes some chat rooms and other real time programs may not work, or are slow. But, you will know more about this issue once you talk with your internet provider.

There is a possibility that although you have downloaded the latest version of java, that your internet browser has in a disabled mode. Every internet browser comes with java, and normally it will update automatically or send you an alert for an update. But, if it is disabled on the browser this would not happen.

If this is the case, or if you want to see if that could be, I recommend downloading a new version of another internet browser for example, Mozilla Firefox. http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/ This browser will come with the latest version and automatically update java. I am concerned if you update your internet explorer browser it will save the disable setting in the newest version, and you will have the same problem.

Please let me know how this goes! I think we are close to getting this to work for you!

OC team
