My mother was recently prescribed Tramodol, in a 50millagram dosage for pain associated with Shingles. Less that 48 hours after her first dosage, she was brighter, more alert, talking like she hasn't talked in years, but a little dilusional. I immediately stopped the medication, but re-started her on a lower dosage, hoping that she would continue to be more alert. That was 3 days ago, and nothing yet, but I am still hoping....Has anyone else had a similar experience. It was just like a fog had lifted and she was almost her old self.

Have not had your experience with Tramadol...but...can understand why it occurred. I believe that Tramodol works by decreasing the brain's perception and response to pain and reduces the degree of the pain signal passed from one nerve to another. At that moment in time...at that dosage...Tramodol tinkered with something in your mothers brain that provided a temporary 'fix'.

Please exercise caution and 'common sense'. The drug that provides a temporary 'fix' one day has the potential for causing havoc the next. I believe that Tramodol is an opiate. If that is true...Additional caution is advised.
