Email your US Senators and Representative TODAY to urge them to support the full $30 billion for NIH which will increase funding for Alzheimer research by $16 million.
Send your message today! Go to: http://alz.kintera.org/TakeActionNow

Background:
On Nov. 12, President Bush vetoed a bill that would fund the Labor, HHS and Education departments and included $30 billion for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) - an amount that would have provided a $16 million increase for Alzheimer's research. Several days later, the U.S. House failed to override the President's veto by only 2 votes.

Work on this issue is not done!

Congress is in recess until December 4th. When Congress returns, they will send President Bush a revised bill (called an omnibus) that combines any spending bills still pending (e.g. NIH funding). The omnibus bill will split the difference between what Congress and the President want to spend on all federal programs.

This could mean a cut for NIH well below the $30 billion that we have been fighting for.

Hi Kate thanks for posting this ..
Just a very important reminder if you haven't done so already today is the deadline to make this call on this issue.
==================

Call: 1.800.687.3813 on Dec. 12 or 13 only, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Eastern.

Tell the White House switchboard operator:

1. I am calling from [city/state] because I want President Bush to support $30 billion for the National Institutes of Health in the omnibus bill.

2. He must support $30 billion for the National Institutes of Health to fund the medical breakthroughs that can end Alzheimer's and save lives.

3. Alzheimer's places tremendous emotional and financial burdens on individuals with the disease and their families.

4. Thank you for taking my call.

Why should you call?
Last month, President Bush vetoed a bill that included $30 billion for the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Included in that amount was a $16 million increase for Alzheimer research – the first increase in three years for this deadly disease. Congress is working on a revised bill that will be sent to the president soon.

If funding for NIH falls below $30 billion, medical breakthroughs to end Alzheimer's will be threatened and more lives will be lost.

Please call the White House 1.800.687.3813 on Dec.13, today between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Eastern.

==============================
Please don't put off calling it only takes one minute, inadequate funding for the upcoming year going to the National Health Institute this will hinder the institutes ability to sustain the momentum of discovery for all types of diseases not just Alzheimer's research we are talking mental health, cancer research etc. Let them know they can skimp somewhere else on the budget not on our health!
