I ran across a video a few months back, I think it was British. There was an older woman in a garden; the look on her face made you think she was as AD patient. Her daughter kept asking her did she want a cup of tea and of course she said yes. At the end of the video, under the table was a huge amount of tea cups and the caption told you the daughter was the one with AD. Very moving, now I can't find it and would like to post the link on FACEBOOK. Does anyone know what I'm speaking of?

Is this it?
Alzheimer's cup of tea

The captions seem to be in Chinese or Japanese, though.

Thanks Maebee.

I'm not sure about signing the charter, though. I'm not familiar with it. Are any of you??

Peace and Hope,
Lisa

Just for the record, I do not support any on-line petitions. Personally, I don't think they are effective. I actually didn't see that, under the video!

I watched the video and read the promotional material regarding the global online petition. My first instinct, without knowing anything more, is that this is a solicitation for money. The video makes no sense. In reading all the posts going back at least 3 years, I never heard of a situation like an AD patient making tea over and over again.

The people on this board with dementia are trying to maintain their independence for as long as they can. They don't want other people's pity. My impression of this video is that we are to pity this young woman whose elderly mother has to handle her, and we'll be inclined to support this group.

It looks like I might have been in error. I did a search for Alzheimer's Disease International and discovered that it is a legitimate organization and they do have a global AD charter petition going on. I would not have been my opinion to use the approach of this video. If I offended anyone, I apologize.

Let me try to explain my thinking. I think the focus on dementia awareness should be on early diagnosis and early treatment so that people can stay in the early stages for longer periods of time. Then they can maintain their independence and remain in the community at lower cost and with less disruption to the family.

There are already millions living with dementia. I believe soon dementia will be treated as a chronic illness, like diabetes. People should support better dementia diagnosis and care for many rational, objective reasons, not because they pity the poor demented person or the poor caregiver. When I look at that video, I feel pity. I want to turn away.

Perhaps others will watch the video and feel differently.

I think you are right, Iris, in that others may interpret the message different ways. My own interpretation was that I assumed the Mother had AD, because of her age. The surprise factor was revealing that it was the younger one, the Daughter, who has it.

Iris,

I think the video was trying to show EOAD instead of AD. They could have done it another way but I am glad they made the video.

More exposure about EOAD! We need ALL the help we can get to get the message out!

Peace and Hope,
Lisa
