Check out the Aricept website for more info.
From what I have gathered, it helps with some people, shows no difference in others. Our mother was helped by it--but many times it is just too hard to tell.
Common side effects are stomach upset, barfing (nas--- spell?), cramps. Quite a few people discontinue the aricept because of the side effects. Sometimes they retry them a few weeks later to see if they still have the side effects. You have to decide on each case if the side effects warrant discontinueing. My mom experiences leg cramps.
There is also Razadyne, which I am not at all familia with, Exelon, and Namedia, which can be given along with the Aricept. I think each Dr has his preferences. If you start any of the drugs, be aware of the side effects, and stop them if the side effects are too severe, and try something else. It is soo hard to decide if the meds are helping to improve or slow down the progression, I think trusting your instincts is the best way to go.
