Does anyone have any experiences to share regarding the use of Ativan (lorazepam) for Advanced Alzheimer's? My mother has been on lorazepam for over 3 years and I am of the view that it has increased the rate of her decline. However, it is not a medication that can easily be stopped as it is very addictive. I am wondering if there is anyone who successfully came off lorazepam and what improvements were achieved.

Julene,

May I be the first to welcome you to alz forum.

Glad you have found us, but sorry for reason you need us. You will get so many replies of people that have experience with this medication.

I suggest that you post this in caregivers forum as that is more read than this thread.

Please come often. The chatroom usually has someone in 6-10 PM and I find it a great support.

My mother has not been on Ativan. She was given a injection when we were in Er once and it was not good results. No calming down for her. Only time she had it.

Take care and come see us often.

Sheryl
