Has anyone heard anything about trehalose (a sugar derived from mushrooms and certain other sources) assisting the proper folding of proteins and correcting problems with amyloid beta misformation?
A family member was sent this by a friend who heard about our situation:
Interesting stuff. I wonder if ingesting this sugar would help or if they would deliver it in a different manner. I looked it up on line and you can buy it, it's not too expensive.

I've ordered 4 pounds of it and will let folks here know how it goes.
There is also something called Ambrotose that supposedly delivers disaccharides more effectively, but the company that makes it has a reputation for pyramid marketing schemes.
I looked into Ambrotose last year after a neighbor told me about it. I can't give any opinion about it, but I did find out that its distribution is through a multi-level marketing company called Manatech. This stuff is very $$$!
As with so many of these compounds that seem to show some promise, the brain uptake is minimal without specialized forumulation or delivery. For instance, if I understand some of the literature correctly, the body breaks trehalose down into glucose before it circulates through the system unless it is modified.
However, it does seem to keep glucose levels stable when used as a substitute for regular sugar.
