Hi to all,

Has anyone heard of Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatments for EOAD/AD?

There is a doctor named Dr. Paul Harch who was on the news last week for treating an ex military man who had a head injury. He had been unable to think and function. After receiving these treatments he was much clearer and ready to start college (before he was considered disabled).

I went to Dr. Harch's webite and called his phone number last week. ( He is not far from where I live.)

Yesterday, I received a return phone call from his nurse Juliette telling me more about the treatments and cost. Dr. Harch does treat dementia/AD patients. She said it takes 40 treatments @ $200 per tx. That's $8,000!!! Oh, it is NOT covered by insurance. She, also, told me he had written a book "Oxygen Revolution" which I will try to get from the library.

Has anyone heard/read about these treatments??

Please, let me know.

Thanks.

Peace and Hope,
Lisa

Here is a link I found which may give you more information about this and how your LO might be able to qualify for treatment as an off-label treatment...

Lisa, this reeks of snake oil -- and possibly very, very harmful snake oil.

The use of hyperbaric oxygen for treating various types of brain problems (vascular dementia, traumatic brain injury, stroke, etc) is highly controversial.

Hyperbaric oxygen can cause significant brain damage, if used on the wrong person in the wrong way and/or at the wrong time.

Very recent studies indicate that hyperbaric oxygen might actually cause AD or make it worse:

The original study, published in NeuroReport, is:

What the medical newstoday article is talking about is not hyperbaric oxygen, it is 100% oxygen for hours at a time. Most hyperparic treatments us some supplementary 02 but not 100%. 100% O2 is well known to have problems for patients if given for long (hours period of time)
