Is anyone a member of Safe Return? Do you like it? What does the jewelry look like?

Hi,
I did apply to the safe return for my lo. the jewlery i chose was a bracelet.
it is a bit rough on the back which shows info if lo is lost and found hopefully.
I am in the process of taking it to the jewelery store and changing things a bit.
don't think she'll wear it.
hope that's not the case.

We got one for Mom. It looks like a Medical bracelet. Not the most attractive piece of "jewelry" but she wears it faithfully. Worth it.

Mom has worn a Medicalert bracelet or necklace for years because she was on Coumadin. I'm not sure if it had a contact number on it, but fortunately she was never a wanderer.

And Vicki -- welcome to the forum! Thanks for already sharing your experience -- we all chip in to help each other out around here!

Finally signed up for Safe Return. While the bracelets are not so fashionable, I think that makes them less likely to be of monetary interest to some else (as in stealing or taking advantage of LO). Also more lasting perhaps.

The clasp is designed to be difficult to undo. While my LO agreed to wear it, I was prepared to put it on him while he was asleep if necessary. It is recommended that you put in on the dominant wrist so as to be harder to remove. It certainly could be forced off, but not unclasped without difficulty, even for a non-AD person.

My DH said he wasn't a "bracelet" person and preferred a necklace, but I felt the bracelet would be more noticable if he was wandering/lost/foggy, etc. and I was counting on some one noticing it.

We got the bracelet for my MIL - it was very rough cut, and cut her wrist initially - but it has smoothed out with the wear (it's been two weeks)....it came larger than what we ordered, and my husband had to take 7 links out of it, so that she couldn't slip it off. She hasn't even realized it's there - and hasn't tried to take it off.
We also ordered the care-giver one also.......I got the necklace for me.

We've had to call 911 one time (she fell) - and they looked at her bracelet immediately - I was impressed....

So far, it's been an excellent investment - 'cause all she wants to do is "go"

One step at a time, my current motto....

Hello, I got the Medic alert/safe return bracelet for my husband. He does not wander but is in an Adult Daycare through out the week days. He is very afraid of any needles and will become violent if someone tries to give him a shot let alone an IV that the ambulance people insist on putting in immediately. This alerts them of the situation, and also puts in the DNR instructions (do not resuscitate) which I believe all especially later stages Alzheimer's patients should have. I have a personal friend who's mother died and was resuscitated and lived for another six months as a vegetable. It was a trauma for the whole family that could have been avoided.

We enrolled my gpa in Safe Return. Initially he wasn't thrilled with wearing the med-alert bracelet, but now he doesn't notice. We told him it was so the Dr. would know how to help him.

We also put a flyer in each of our neighbor's mailboxes with his picture and a couple numbers to contact us if they see him walking beyond our drive way unattended. I'm so glad we did, b/c we've already had two calls!

I heard about Safe Return but decided to go the route of getting my own bracelet made for my hubby and he loves wearing it. I found the company on Ebay and it is called LASERCRAFTS (no, I am not the owner of the company nor do I get any kickbacks but absolutely love what they do). The bracelet I got for my hubby is the SP-1 and on the front is the medical symbol plus his name on one line and Alzheimers/pacemaker on the second line. Then on the back there are four lines of print:
address, city/state, phone number, and the last line says see wallet ID card (because he has special stuff due to the pacemaker in his wallet).

Truly, for under $30, this bracelet is gorgeous and he NEVER takes it off. It looks very nice on the wrist and he showers every day with it on, etc. and it looks as good today as when we first got it.

Trying to not lose it!
