Too often TV has shown AD at its early stages.
My father was diagnosed at 55 years old in 1967 and died with it 18+ years later. They didn't know that much about it then. By the time there were help groups started, he was way beyond what the others were. They couldn't relate to where he was in the progression. My mother cared for him at home until the last 6 years when he had to move to a nursing home and she went twice every day to be sure he was cared for. It was sad then there was no help with the costs of care and will only be worse as we "baby-boomers" age. Maybe The Alzheimer's Project will shed more light on this horrible disease.
