I only watched the caregiving segment so far, but I was very disappointed and it angered me. Oh how wonderful it would be if we all could afford assisted living and oh so caring nursing homes! Do they really exist or do some actually pretend that their loved ones are being cared for because they dare not look too closely in their once a week visit? Lucky them.
Also as others said it was too clean. Show how it really is when the caregiver has to work full time and is forced to put their loved one in a nursing home because they don't have the money to do otherwise. Nice houses, nice cars, nice atmosphere. No having your loved one screaming, no stained clothes, no urine or feces, etc. All so nice and neat. My apologies who thought it was an accurate depiction. Maybe I am in a different position (Medicaid/Medicare not private pay), and my mother is at stage 6. And I am angry at the general way the elderly in this country are treated and how we are forced to leave them in the care of people like some of the aides that I would not trust to wash my floor unsupervised. |

I hear what you're saying Reggi. My mother is in the beginning stages of this horrible disease and we have just begun the journey of trying to figure out how to provide the best care for mom in the future. She does not have enough retirement to afford the wonderful assisted living places, yet because she has retirement, she does not qualify for any financial assistance. My mother worked as a psychiatric nurse for 40 years -- and continued working until she was 70. My dad has been out of the picture for the past 30 years. Mom worked very, very hard to give my sister and I a wonderful life. I think that it is terrible that in our country, we do not have a better plan set up to take care of the elderly population.

Dear Reggi and RobinS,
I understand your feelings and your anger. It is outrageous how the elderly are treated in this country! But, why take it out on HBO? Those were real people/families we saw in that film! Some have replied on these boards. If you want to get angry, get angry at Your Senators, Congressmen/Women, Representatives and law makers who rule this country! Call them, write them, go and see them! Get involved for change. Thank you for watching, sharing and caring. Become an AD Advocate today! Peace and Hope, Lisa check out my blog @ http://lcc-thoughtsfromtherollercoaster.blogspot.com/ |

You tell 'em, Lisa!
Even if you're caregiving 24/7, you can still easily advocate. The Alz Assoc sends me emails about their activities, which have links to send emailed letters to your representatives. The emails are already written for you, although you are encouraged to edit them any way you like. The software even locates your representatives based on your zipcode. It takes two minutes! |
