I thank you HBO for making this movie. This is an important film. My corporate job was upset that I wanted to work out of my home to help with my mom who has Alzheimer's Disease. My corporate job strongly encouraged me to through my mom into a home and I refused to do that. This is corporate america.

formymom, thanks for joining the community - but I'm so sorry for what brought you here.

It's Federal law that employers have to make reasonable accommodations to your needs. I've never had a job that could be done from home. But, if you have a job you can do from home, and it not adversely affect the business, the law says you should be allowed to do that.

While you're here, I'd love to hear more about your circumstances, the story of your mom's AD. Stuff like that.

Sarah12:

You've got that right.

Most companies should have that motto printed on their business cards.

I am taking care of my Aunt who has Dementia and the HBO special helped me a lot. She has an appointment next Monday to see a Neurologist, who will hopefully shed more light on her condition.

Hi Everyone

Last night I emailed the Editor for HBO regarding Alzheimer's, What's wrong with Grandpa?". I stated that their interpretation was fair, but not enough information regarding the highs/lows of the disease. In example, sun downing, the inability to deal with money, loud noises, crowds, while being in a car, traffic darting in and out of lanes, anger outbursts, not understanding a conversation, obtaining a disease at an early age and it's economical impact not just on family, but, our government!

Finally,I stated, that I'd like to see a "realistic" version of a younger person inflicted with this disease and how they try to stay in the workplace by hiding their inflictions. This way, they can continue to put "bread on the table." And the difficulties that we face regarding diagnosis and support for not just medical but, financial as well.

Back in March in DC, I met the lady who edited the HBO Alzheimer's program for Maria Shriver (Maria was bombarded with others from the dinner), she appeared to be interested when I told her that I have EOAD. She almost acted "surprised" due to my age. I asked her if it were possible to delve deeper into this side of the Alzheimer's Disease, to be perfectly frank, I'm not sure what she said (I honestly can't remember) but, I do know that we spoke approximately 10-minutes or longer.

I'm not 100% sure that I will hear from them/HBO,but, I'd give my eyeteeth to speak with them again. Just to see if they will follow thru with my request.

Celebrity: Maria Shriver, why not have her as national spokesperson. Other charities use celebrities also!

What do you all think? These were just thoughts racing thru my head and I had to act upon them!

M

Mary, I bet somewhere on HBO's site they have email connections, that might can re-connect you with the producer. And it's all about the producer. Some people mistakenly think the director is in charge, and that's true up to a point but - the producer hires the director.

I think Maria is an excellent spokesperson, and I can only dream that hubby Arnold would put his energy behind AD, when his term ends and he's looking for stuff to do.

Mary et al,

I vote for Maria. I think she's great. I don't know if Arnold is committed to this cause or not??

Good Luck with the HBO thing.

Please, keep us posted.

Peace and Hope,
Lisa

Alan/Lisa

How do we go about getting in touch with the producer @HBO? Do you think the National Alzheimer's Organization would give us a contact name and email address?

Tell me what you think. I'd like to pursue this!

Or, there was a post here from someone who had an e-mail to contact hbo?? I think it was someone named Jezza? Try, checking these hbo boards!

You can try corporate too.

Good Luck.

Peace and Hope,
Lisa
