Hello

Some of you might have read posts I have made before. I live in Canada and have found it hard to be able to view the HBO films, I have a friend who taped them and I will watch them this weekend and I commend HBO for doing this series. I think most films I have seen about Alzheimer's have been really well done, and I finished a documentary about my father who had EOAD, and it's all about getting the message out there, right?

My Film won Best International Film at the Indie Spirit Film Fest in Colorado Springs two weeks ago.

Hello--I am disappointed in the Alzheimer's Association in limiting the special only to HBO. It does not matter whether it was free because I do not have a cable box. I only have basic cable and I would have to pay extra for a box. I was laid off from my job and the money is tight. As for viewing it on the computer, that is not possible because the computer is located too close to my mother and she "sundowns" every day. I have been a 24/7 caregiver for almost seven years now. I do have volunteers coming in to take my mother out for meals and/or shopping but other than that, I do not have any help. I am managing but I have no hope for a cure for this disease. Here is my question or concern to the Alzheimer's Association: If a person is diagnosed with AD every 71 seconds, wouldn't it be better to broadcast three nights of this on a network that is more accessible to everyone? Why not show it on PBS? I think the Alzheimer's Association has missed the mark and the opportunity to create a HUGE LOBBY GROUP. Sorry to be negative but getting the message out was done at the very minimum by the Alzheimer's Association. Please do look at the other networks. By the way, when I called HBO to find out how I could view it for free, no one at HBO had a clue about the program--another faux pas by Alzheimer's Association.

I've been trying to sell my film to a US network as well, like PBS, but still no response and you will see on my site, my film has played right across Canada on Public TV. And the responses have been great, So I would like to get it aired in the US. But it's not easy! if anyone has ideas let me know!

lasgrace, it's an HBO production, that's why it's on HBO and not a free public station. The Alzheimer's Association had no role in that. The producers' deal is with HBO. Alz. Assoc. is not a producer of the series.

And to HBO's credit, they told their distributors that everyone could watch the series for free. Alas, the cable companies, e.g. Comcast, for the most part chose to not unblock the series.

You can watch it for free all you want, at the HBO website. I hope you can work out what to do with your loved one so you can watch it.

No need to apologize for being negative. You're doing the work of many people with your loved one. Exhaustion is not a good place from which to deal with all the world's frustrations.

Tell me more about your mom, please?

Dear lasgrace,
Please read the thread, "What other stations will run this?" on this message board started by GinaS. There are many ways to view this documentary project. I hope you can see the programs soon.

Anyone can watch the series on-line anytime for FREE.

Iasgrace was saying that her computer is in a shared space in the house, her mother would see the program on the computer. She could probably watch the TV in the privacy of her own bedroom.

Would a headset help? Would watching it at night after she sleeps be an option?

Could a friend tape them for you, Grace?
