I know someone who has spent much of adult life caring for first one parent until the very end of life and now the other parent who, after many years of decline, has advanced Alzheimer's Disease. The caregiver does not own, nor know how to use a computer, does not have cable and does not own a DVD player. I believe this person would benefit from viewing the HBO Alzheimer's Project. A computer would allow heightened connection with the world. This person is a highly intelligent, devoted, loving caregiver who may be able to make a contribution of ideas, if only a means were available. A perfect example of a "missed connection with the world" is the HBO Alzheimer's Project. Does anyone knows of an organization that may be willing to help with the donation of a computer, service provider for a time and a bit of training time, or a DVD player and installation of same OR have ideas for helping to make this wish come true? Your feedback will be appreciated. Thank you.

With a cheap headphone they probably could use a computer at the library to watch the series on hbo.com.

Someone, not necessarily the library staff, could bring up the computer and website and start the videos.

In Northern California, the libraries only allow you to use the computers for 30-60 mins per day.

Netflix has the dvd. Could a neighbor, family member or friend let them watch with their dvd player?

This person is unable to spend time at the library or a neighbor's home due to the needs of LO. Both are great ideas. Not long ago, when both the caregiver and loved one were able to go shopping, etc., I believe these options may have been viable. Thank you for sharing your ideas, Anita.

Perhaps HBO will consider allowing PBS to air the series...

Is a portable DVD player with screen an option?

Great idea, if only an organization would send one on loan to this person via a delivery service, with a return UPS label and call for pick-up option, and then the same with the actual DVD's, IT WOULD BE WONDERFUL!

Perhaps in the interim, HBO will allow PBS to air the series.

Thank you for the terrific suggestion.

Perhaps I missed it, but I would have liked to have seen some discussion of the financial stress that this disease creates. For example, the cost of live-in health aides or the cost of placing someone in an assited living facility speacializing in Alzheimer's care.

Surely your friend knows somebody who knows somebody who owns a laptop. You could get the DVDs, bring the laptop over to their house, and hit play for them.
