I am a 23 year old who lives in georgia. I have a 4 year old daughter and recently moved my grandmother to georgia to live with me from N.Y. She is 78 and has Alzheimers really bad. She has lived with me since September 2007. I am the only family she has in georgia so I am the only one to care for her. I am so stressed out I just want to crawl in a whole and be by myself. She has the mentality of a 2 year old, and I feel so bad because she don't know what I am talking about when I talk to her or even how to get dressed. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there is anywhere I can get help from. I am not able to work because I can't leave her by herself, and I promised her I would NEVER put her in a home away from me. I am like her security blanket. I am the only person in the family that can get her to do anything and I am just so stressed I don't know what to do other than cry. Her and my 4 year old constantly fuss, and I just don't know what to do. It has kinda caused problems between my fiance and I but he just has to deal with it because that is my grandmother! I just need someone to talk to or find out if there is programs that will help me with her or something. Thank you very much

talayah,
go to the caregiver posts, there are alot of people that can help you there. Call your local area on aging they can possibly give you some caregiver options. You sound very tired and frustrated, I know because we have all been there as well. You must take care of yourself as well as your grandmother. Taking care of yourself will help you to be a better caregiver as well. You are not alone, take a deep breath and talk to us. I have not been a caregiver all that long but I will help you as much as I can. |

Yes talayah,
DO go to the Caregivers forum; this is where you'll find much help and support; just click on where it says "Message Boards Forum Index" and a list will come up: click on Caregivers Forum. I'm so sorry you're going thru this; you DO need help!! Caregiving for a loved one w/ Alz./dementia is SO hard, and to have a little one to care for at the same time?? Please, do check out the Caregivers forum, and also, call the Alzheimers Association; they can help guide you. 1-800-272-3900 Does your Grandmom see a Dr.? I'd start there as well; her primary care physician. Hope to see you on the other forum. Take care!! Matnet4 |
