MY DAD HAS ALWAYS BEEN A HAPPY MAN AND ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP ANYONE. NOW HE GETS ANGRY AT MY MOM AT THE DROP OF A HAT. HE'S EVEN THREATENED TO KILL HIMSELF, OR BOTH OF THEM, AND NOW HE IS WANTING TO DISABLE HIS TRUCK BECAUSE MOM WON'T LET HIM DRIVE IT. HOW CAN I MAKE DAD UNDERSTAND THAT IT IS FOR HIS AND EVERYONE ELSE'S SAFETY THAT WE DON'T WANT HIM TO DRIVE? MOM LET HIS DRIVER'S LICENSE EXPIRE THIS MONTH ON PURPOSE WITHOUT TELLING HIM. HE'S 76.

Hello, S.D. Miller, Welcome to these message boards. I hope you will visit the chat room in the evening in your time zone.
I don't have an answer to your question but there are many who have had experience with the driving problem. Please re-post your question on the Caregiver's Forum. Many more people read that forum and you will soon receive many responses to help you. Iris L. I am my own caregiver. |

Hello S.D., my name is Tom and I want to WELCOME you to this board that is designed for people like you and I! I’m sorry to hear about your problems. Debating the driving issue only causes more distress. It is very important to keep a positive attitude! We all have good days and bad ones. Maybe you should wait until he seems receptive and begin to discuss the danger of some driving he has seen.
My story, I’m not a professional in this area. I’m a person with AD that serves as a volunteer on the message board. In June of 2008 (age 58) I was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s related dementia. I have already surrendered in drivers license and I'm only 60. I began visiting this message board in August 2008 and the people have become important to me. I’m sure that you will find a number of supporters here for you. I will attach a link to a site that will lead you to your local Alzheimer’s Association Chapter. Those people will be able to assist you with local resources and thoughts to improve your life: http://www.alz.org/apps/findus.asp Please call the 24/7 Helpline at 1-800-272-3900 if you have any pressing issues! Hello and Welcome to the AD Message Boards. I'm sorry to hear about your Dad but I'm, glad you've found us. Tom has given you some wonderful information to read about Alzheimer's. One of the things many people don't know about AD is that it can often cause Personality Changes in the affected person!!! Anger is fairly common and can be uncontrollable without proper medications!! Please, call the 24/7 AD Help Line @ 800-272-3900. Please, come back and let us know how you are doing. You are NOT alone. We are here!! Peace and Hope, Lisa check out my blog @ http://lcc-thoughtsfromtherollercoaster.blogspot.com/ |
