My oldest sister has alzheimers; at first, I was unable to accept it. I have come to the reality of it now. I want to do all I can, to make her life comfortable. Our mother had alzheimers, too.
We lost her in 1995, after a quick progression of alzheimers. My older sister and I were the caregivers for my mother. We kept her in our homes, until we were no longer able to. We tried to find her one of the best care facilities in our area. We finally did, although I do not think any care facility, is like being home with a family who loves you. My mother declined rapidly in the care facility. She had a mild stroke during that time. My sister would tell me how she never wanted to have a stroke, or get alzheimers. She was always careful about products with dyes, aluminum, anything that could help cause alzheimers. This is breaking my heart, after she and I went through it with our mother. To see her have to go through it, too, is not fair. Her husband is her prime caregiver, along with their son and me. I go over to see her at least twice a week and we go out. She can no longer drive and do many of the tasks she was used to doing. She started showing signs in, 2006; I believe she must be in the moderate stage. I do not want her to ever have to go to a care facility. I know this will not be my decision, it will be her husband, and their son. I am glad I found this site, where I can share with other people, in my situation. |

I am new also and was hoping to talk to other people knowing how hard it is dealing with this disease. My husband was told he has alzheimers about 5 years ago, I did not believe it as he had a stroke and I thought being forgetful was from that but I was wrong. Hope to share info with others , my name is Cindy.
