I lost my maternal Gma to alz in 2002. Now my paternal Gpa has it. I am 10 times closer to him than i was with her, so now all the things i thought I was prepared for only hurt that much more. Unfortunately he lives 700 miles away from me. I've made an extensive family history with him via snail mail. Any suggestions on A) how to better cope with this and B)any suggestions on how to stay close to him while He still remembers me? (btw he's hearing impaired so phone calls are rare)

Dear Grampa's Girl,
I'm so sorry for what brings your here. I do have one suggestion. There are special phones and services for the hearing impaired. Go on line to check this out. This service may allow you to continue phone conversations with your Grampa! Also, make and send him things with pictues of the 2 of you! Write on them to help him remember. Perhaps a scrap book for each of you that you could talk about over the phone! Hope this helps Peace and Hope, Lisa |

I fine that Picture Books of the things they know help. My Mom was in Hawaii when WWII broke out books of Hawaii not the War seem to please her.
A simple photo book of you and yours with easy captions will give him something to look at. But beware when I put mine together my mother looked at a picture of myself and two sisters at a young age and said she did not know who they were. I smiled, what else can we do. Good luck...take care. amormom@yahoo.com |
