I just moved my 95 yr old dad to our home in Montana. He is in sixth stage, can't walk, but tries to get out of bed during the night. Someone has to sleep on the floor next to him so he won't fall & break his hip. (I just lost my Mother on Jan.11 - the caregiver left her alone in the bathroom 3 months before - she fell - broke her hip - then became covered in bed sores, suffered terribly & died of a massive stroke). We tried an alarm that clips on my Dad's pj collar & sets off a smoke alarm type sound if it gets pulled off, but I am profoundly deaf (especially high frequencies)& can't hear it. Any suggestions?

My name is Mary, I'm 49, with (EOAD). Get your dad on Safe Return. Contact your community Alz Org. they'll tell you how. We have a home security system with ADT. One of the features are abilities to set your home parameters. So, if your father tries to leave his bedroom/home alarms will sound. But, most importantly, another feature the alarm will ring to your neighborhood police dept!

Good Luck

Taking each day, one at a time...

Dear Feather Sherman: I want to send you a hearty welcome to the Caregiver's Forum. You will meet many nice and caring people here.

Unfortunately, I do not have any experience with bed alarms as we have not had to use them; however, you will be getting much input from people here on the forum. Sometimes if it is the weekend, it may take a day or so to get the majority of responses.

It sounds as though you have some pretty significant challenges, but are rising to the occasion. We are glad to have you amongst us and hope to visit with you often.

I would also like to inform you of another forum on this site which is, "Questions for the Care Consultant." When you ask a question there, it will take a day or so, but you will get a response from an Alzheimer's Association Social Worker. Sometimes their advice is most excellent when a significant challenge is before us.

Talk to you soon,

Johanna C.

MERCY, MERCY, ME!!!!! Apologies are extended.

I at first did not notice you were in the Chat Guide. I am SO very sorry.

Please Feather Sherman, do go and ask this question on the Caregiver's Forum on this site. This is the place where the greatest number of people communicate here in the Online Community. You will get MANY responses from people who have much experience with the same issue you are dealing with.

The Caregiver's Forum is the most "happening place" here.

Best wishes,

Johanna C.
