My mom has been on Exelon (4.5 mg 2x a day) for several years. She is scheduled to see her Neurologist soon and the receptionist mentioned he is now prescribing the Exelon patch to his AD patients. I am looking to gather information and feedback about it. I hesitate to change meds because she is doing OK with what we have now, but if it works better and makes life easier, I'll agree.

Thanks.

Zoey, No exelon is like aricept - an AD med to help slow the progression of the disease. It has no affect on anger or aggresion.

Hi, Just want to tell you that my husband has been on Razadyne for a little less than 1 yr, and now I am noticing a decline in his memory. The dr. told me he is going to put him on Exelon patch this Sept. for 90x weeks. I would appreciate any feedback I can get on this. It would be a higher dose than he is now receiving. Has anyone been on this meds and if so do they see good results?

Please make sure that the person getting the RX for the patch is not the one responsible for putting on and changing the patches!!!
The patch is supposed to eliminate the side effect of decreased appetite and nausea, but can cause skin irritation...

My 85 year old Dad who has AD was put on the new Exelon Patch last November. I understand it gets into their bloodstream more evenly and efficiently and it eliminates mistakes in medicine dispensing but we have been through alot with this change. My Dad's neurologist rec'd a call from me in January - pleading to go back to Aricept because my Dad was deteriorating before my eyes and it was looking like assisted living time very soon. She refused to change meds saying this was the "change over" period and in a short time things will improve. I didn't believe it but she was right within 2 weeks or so he began to come back to life, the fog lifted, his memory was clearer, more good days than bad days, etc. I am now happy with the Exelon Patch but it took a while. It does itch him alot and I have to place it where it is difficult for him to get to.

Good Luck.

Just got back from the doc. office today. He put my 65 yr old mother on the Exelon Patch. Has anyone had success stories from this medication? My mom is going for an MRI next week, so we don't even know the extent of her dementia yet.
