I have a new book you may be interested in -- especially if you work directly with family caregivers. For five years I worked as a Family Caregiving Consultant, first with the Alzheimer's Association and then with a state-sponsored caregiver resource center in Santa Cruz, CA (Del Mar Caregiver Resource Center). During that time I worked primarily with family caregivers and wrote a monthly email newsletter sharing advice, resources and insights about the path. Most people came to me seeking practical assistance but most of the time the conversation would eventually turn to emotional and spiritual issues they were facing along the way.
I wrote about all of that and now -- as of this week --those articles are available in a book called THE SPIRITUAL JOURNEY OF FAMILY CAREGIVING through Lulu.com at http://www.lulu.com/content/1767517 . I also have a blog where I'm posting lots of excerpts from the book, new articles, book reviews and links to caregiver resources at http://spiritualcaregiving.blogspot.com/ . I invite you to take a look and share what you find useful with others.
I have a question that our family really needs an answer to. We are planning to have a family member stay home with our dad, and in order to do this we are planning to have her draw a salary to replace her income. Does anyone know how we can get started? Every time I try to Google for answers, we get information on funding OUTSIDE HELP. We need to know what our tax requirements would be, both to satisfy the law, and to make sure the financial impact on her is as minimal as possible. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I would suggest that you have a meeting with an elderlaw attorney. You need to make sure this does not impact medicaid eligibility , if that is a possibility down the road. You could consider using a payroll service to take care of ss, workers comp, withholding, etc. Workers comp could, for instance, became a huge issue if she is injured while caring for your dad.
All of your fathers heirs should sign off on the plan.
