There are way too many EOAD cases being reported! Many persons have not even seen a neurologist when they become overwrought with despair.......
There are blood tests, CT scans, MRI's and even PET Scans. Unless there is some sort of brain damage due to an objective test, persons diagnosed as having EOAD, should not take the diagnosis as fact. This also applies in spite of numerous relatives having suffered from dementia diagnosed as Alzheimers. There are numerous medications that lead to memory decline and cognitive dysfunction. Statins are being linked to all sorts of health problems including memory problems, chronic muscle pains and even heart failure. Former astronaut/medical doctor/researcher, Duane Graveline, has written books re statins -- one of which is "Dangers of Statins." See: wwwspacedoc.net for more info. My husband, Bud, took Mevacor and later Lipitor. He has improved after moving his electric clock radio off his nightstnd (you do not want anything electric and also telephone equipment close to esp head of bed) and discontinuing his statin, "Lipitor." See my appeal to Dr. Marilyn Albert at: http://freepage.twoday.net/stories/3038870/ ...... My website (access below sign-off) provides more information regarding the need to reduce electric field exposures close to beds. Electric fields are known to reduce melatonion. Melatonin is a very powerful antioxidant, a cancer fighter and also a "radio-protectant." You would not want to just take melatonin and continue to have a cordless phone transformer box, a cellphone with or without charger -- numerous other items-of-concern, close to bed even tho melatonin is protective. There are numerous studies re melatonin, one of which I am still reviewing that states melatonin may slow onset of Alzheimers and/or Parkinsons and/or reduce the severity of symptoms. We take Omega 3 fish oil, selenium, magnesium, Vitamin D, Coenzyme Q-10, cinnamon, alpha lipoic acid, acetyl-L-carnitine, green tea, turmeric, gingko biloba, garlic, glutathione and more....... We avoid the B vitamins other than what is contained in our senior vitamin. We both take six of the 3 mg. melatonin capsules (no B-6) every night before bed. Hallucinations and delusions have stopped completely in Bud w/exception of a problem recently due to an antibiotic. In this day and age of "Big Pharma" and denials by the American Cancer Society, our government, industry and even mainstream doctors, we do need to do our own research. In my case, as the months have gone by my symptoms are more consistent with Lewy Body Dementia, and some days more like Frontotemporal Dementia. Since my neurologist can't tolerate being frustrated, he's trying to convince my insurance company to do a PET scan. It would be nice to see what's going on, if for no other reason than to help my wife prepare for what's coming.
Poor insurance company, fighting hard to keep their money. Alan |

Joanne, I completely agree with what you are saying, THERE ARE TOO MANY YOUNG CASES DIAGNOSED WITH EOAD. How many of them are truly other types of dementia such FTD variants, VaD, and so many others? Personally I think the total numbers of 5.2 million are too low as every 7 seconds, someone is diagnosed with EOAD. How many are not diagnosed that should be? How many refuse to go to the doctor? The numbers are too low.

I agree with Joanne and Tracy,
First, I was diagnosed with EOAD/MCI, then EOAD/FTD. As time goes on, I'll see what develops! So will the doctors!!! I agree with Tracy. The numbers are way too low!! Everyone with memory problems needs to see their doctor, a neurologist, have tests done especially neuropsychologial testing!!! Peace and Hope, Lisa |

Alan, Tracy and Lisa: Thank you for your very important responses!
The numbers are "frighteningly low" when considering how many years a person can have memory problems without seeking a doctor's help and also, it takes such a long time for even immediate family to realize "trouble is brewing" and that it may be "significant!" In other words, there are many "unreported/unknown" cases..... I have a women's magazine upstairs that states "60% of children between the ages of 13 and 16 take a cell phone to bed with them." Will try and do separate post that includes name of magazine, date, etc. soon. If persons just accept they may have EOAD, they may accept their fate, perhaps recalling and relying upon facts re extended family members who have suffered from "Alzheimers." In this day and age, and really, "since electrification," Alzheimers is "truly genetic" in only a small percentage of cases (sorry I know you know this -- I mention for benefit of persons new to site). Regardless of cause of EOAD -- in cases where there is a "confirmed pathological change," we can not afford to ignore the serious issues surrounding damage that is occurring as result of persons sleeping close to electric and/or telephone equipment. Likewise, as I often write, the studies on melatonin indicate it may delay onset of Alzheimers and Parkinsons and/or reduce the severity of symptoms. Some of these benefits may possibly occur regardless of "cause..." In other words, even if neuropsych testing supports a diagnosis, or even if an MRI or PET Scan, etc. reveals some sort of damage, knowledge re important existing studies may help improve quality-of-life and perhaps even delay severity of symptoms. Patients and caregivers are "way out ahead" of doctors regarding "alternative methods." Doctors aren't researchers. Again, sorry, you know this too but I state for others who come along. We can't afford to let anyone fall victim to the "911 game" if we can use known facts to help delay such decline. It will be a long time before the American Medical Association gets on track. Big money "controls" all..... Think positive, do your own research and "stay well" for a long time to come! You are providing an invaluable service to many.... Joanne Joanne C.
