Hey Everybody

I Just wanted to remind you of Memory Walk. I am personally attending the Memory Walk in Fredericksburg, VA 9/25 and again in WV 10/31.

I stopped in the Alz Org in WV today, they have asked me to help them with a recorded discussion panel regarding the absence of knowledge regarding Alzheimer's by physicians. The "various diagnosis" we get from one physician to another.

Any input is well accepted. I will be attending this meeting Friday, Sept 4th, in the am!

I will check my emails tomorrow for any input.

Wish me Luck

M Wink

Taking each day, one at a time...

Dear Mary,
What a great topic! How did the discussion go?
There is a physician in our area who will only diagnose 'dementia.' Sure wish I had been there at that event. Some dementias, but not Alzheimer's are reversible!

Another who said, 'oh, you're fine. We all lose some memmory as we age." to a woman who is now in a locked AD unit and doesn't know her own daughter.

Hey Mary, Mimi et al,

I have signed up for our Memory Walker here in the Greater New Orleans Area. It will be held Saturday October 3rd @ Audubon Park. I have set up my team on line.

Has everyone done this???

Please, do it now! If you're not sure how to do it contact your local AD Assn for help!!

Peace and Hope,
Lisa

Mary,

I'm not sure what you're looking for but with EOAD/YOAD most doctors still don't believe that younger people can have Alzheimer's Disease.

They always think it's something else. Now, it is always good to check out the things that can be corrected or cured but the they must realize that there is a percentage of US out there that actually DO have Alzheimer's/ and other related dementias!!! And that we need immediate care (meds, referrals, the works!)

Another thing, is neuropsychological testing still considered the "Standard of Care" to determine AD?? If it is, then most doctors should be aware of this and what it is.

One of the problems with neuropsychological testing is that a lot of insurance companies still DON'T pay for it or pay a small portion.

If it is the standard of care then we need to get the doctors involved in assisting patients in getting the testing and then getting the insurance companies to pay for it!!

You may, also, want to give the doctors the New 10 Warning Signs of AD as well Principles for a Dignified Diagnosis.

I'm sorry, my brain is getting fried. I'll try to think more about this and post again!

Good Luck, Mary! Go get um!

Peace and Hope,
Lisa
