To All: This is a very interesting link re Lyme Disease: http://cassia.org/essay.htm .....

I think a google search will bring up areas of the country where this tick-borne illness is common.

The county we live in here in Minnesota -- "Anoka County," is one area noted for deer tick spread of Lyme Disease.

Bud has an appointment w/new internist in a couple of weeks at which time I will have his records reviewed but even if he has previously had a negative test, will ask to have it repeated. I have heard of quite a few cases that did not show up at time of first test.

Bud's PET Scan does not confirm any pathological changes that would account for his moderate-to-severe memory loss and cognitive dysfunction. He has, however, improved in three parts of his Executive Function after reducing his night electric field exposure. He was sleeping w/electric clock on nightstand and moving that and starting him on melatonin, resulted in improvement in one part of his Exective Function (neuropsych test).

Bud subsequently improved in three parts of his Executive Function after discontinuing his statin (Lipitor).

Incidentally, the link above does mention electric field exposures exacerbate symptoms of Lyme Disease. That statement is not surprising to me considering I have researched effects of electric field exposure for 18 years. See my website (access below sign-off) for information re the sort of items that should not be close to one's bed.

There are other blood tests and a CT scan or MRI may be ordered prior to a PET Scan.

My "message" is, if no test offers an explanation for decline in memory and cognitive dysfunction, and if you live in an area known to have deer ticks, it is important to request testing for Lyme Disease in addition to the other tests.

Best wishes and take care - Joanne

It's interesting that you mention Lyme Disease. When my Husband started having problems about 9 years ago, aches, fatigue, etc. the doctor did tests for Lyme Disease. They also tested for Fibromaliga twice. They ended up finding a petulatory gland prolactin tumior. However, all of these problems seemed to start around the time he went to the ER with a tick we couldn't remove. Now, I'm pretty sure we are dealing with what you call fronttemperal. can't focus and concentrate, can't think through situations (especially financial) without anger. his personality has changed, gets short-tempered with even the most mild/easy discussions. So far the only memory problems are related to very recent conversations and questions. I think the reason he doesn't remember some things is because he can't focus on the conversation so he doesn't hear what is being said. Thanks, Mary!!
