i'm almost 56...spent many years caring for mom & dad - both w/ AD. mom was in a nursing home and i loved being around her and the others w/ AD... mom died 12/21/08, dad went to live w/ sister (a huge relief - and he's close by, so i can visit) i still go to the nursing home to visit the ladies i grew to love.
i called today to see about volunteering at the adult day program our area agency on aging has. mom was part of the group until she became so frail. i'm hoping it'll lead to a "paying" job b/c i have to support myself.
i miss mom so much. so, so much.

Hi Eileen, Thank you for sharing your story. I think its great that you are giving back the way you are by going to the nursing home and volunteering at the area agency on aging. Good for you!
I guess we never get over the loss of a mom, thus we keep missing them....so much.

You might consider checking out the Office of Aging in your county, too. The one near me loves volunteers, and it has a great fun place. Good for you for checking these out. I know in my county there are volunteer and paid jobs at the Senior Center. Of course, with the economy like it is, lots more volunteer than paid but they might lead to something in the future.
