Today several times I have run into the walls of my house and wonder if this has happened to anyone else? I don't know I am doing it until it happens.

Sharon, some of us lose balance earlier than others, that could be happening. My mom had vascular dementia, and developed poor balance real early. I have peripheral neuropathy, trouble with balance because I can't feel myself walking.

Then there's always the chance you've got a little inner ear infection.

Sharon,

Are you running into the corners as you turn or just smacking into the walls??

Peace and Hope,

I had this problem once. It was due to too much seizure medication. My mind would think I was turning a corner but my body would continue straight.

More recently, I have had problems 'clipping corners' where I run into the corner that I am attempting to walk around.

Hi Sharon,

I've started to "bump" into walls or closed doors. I'm not walking fast so I end surprising myself more than anything else.

Doesn't happen every day though I've noticed when it does it seems to happen over a period of several days and then I'm fine again.

Doesn't bother me, a little embarrassing for me if it happens when I'm out shopping.

As long as I don't end up catapulting myself into a door or wall and injuring myself I figure I'm okay.

I've missed corners while walking but also perceived a door or aisle when none was there.

My peripheral vision is a bit off so I think that may account for some of what's happening.

Don't know if this helps or not, I hope so.

A few years ago I started bumping into walls or doorways too. I never had the best peripheral vision. I started using a cane to stabilize my walking outside. I have been falling, so now I am using the cane while in my house too. I don't walk outside without someone being with me. Please be careful, don't get injured if you can prevent it.

Hi Sharon

I am currently going to physical therapy for a wide gait & depth perception. Therapy is suppose to "re-train" the brain. So far, (after 3x's per week/3) my gait is getting narrower but, the depth perception is still there. I seems to be worse on bad days. To date since attending PT, I suffer more with headaches and nausea. According to the therapist, my "left brain" is not receiving messages as well as my "right brain"

I have difficulties distinguishing if "stairs" (for instance)are flat! I'm not sure who on these threads gave this idea: use "white tape" on stairs to distinguish "breaks" of each step. This idea has helped immensely!

Walking outside is more difficult. I can see colors, cracks and holes, but, I can't determine the depths?

Tomorow should be interesting---I am participating in "Memory Walk" here at home and also will be speaking.
