My wife has been diagnosed with ALZ, and she is 63 yrs. old. Her neurologist has suggested the drug SEROQUEL @ 25mg. Any comments about SEROQUEL? The side effects have me really concerned.

My husband was given seroquel last year, he is 62 years old, it caused him to become agitated. We have since discontinued use under the guidance of a geriatric specialist. He has no more agitation.

Jim is 71 & was having terrible temper tantrums to the point I was afraid when he was angry. For us it has been a Godsend. His mind is still all mixed up & he gets unhappy when he can not do what he wants but he is so much more mellow...Seems like all of these drugs have different effects on people.

Yobi,
I agree with CarolJ's assessment. Many of the antipsychotic medications can have a widespread effect on different people. If the side effects are too severe, tell your doctor, and he may decide to try a few other APs (such as risperdal), or even a SSRI. Either way, They can work wonders for many of the mood changes associated with AD. |

As said, many of these meds need to be prescribed and monitored closely! A lot of Docs like to just write the script. Make sure you pay close attention to your loved ones behavior because my 84 yr.old father was prescribed more and more(due to combativeness) along the way until he became a living zombie. He is now in a nursing home and they have him on less than half of the dose he was getting. He is so more alert and smiles more. His doctor just felt he needed a little more each time we expressed our concerns Re:his behavior.
