Hi Sierra. How are you doing today? I hope things will be able to get under control very soon. I'm glad you saw our suggestions for you. Please let us know how things are working out.

Brittany06 told me she chatted with you a few days ago. I'm glad you two could meet.

Iris

I'm extremely happy for yo. Not that you are diseased, but, the physicians have finally given you a diagnosis. Hopefully, one of which will be treatable.

You have been extremely helpful to me in the past and I'm sure you will continue to be to all going forward.

One doc wants to try a lumbar puncture to look for certain compounds. Iris, have you ever heard of this?

Flowers, what the doctor wants to look for are some "biomarkers" -- biomolecules in the cerebrospinal fluid that are associated with certain illnesses. When it comes to diagnosing the cause of cognitive dysfunction, this approach is still pretty experimental. By that, I mean that there haven't been large clinical trials that confirm a given biomarker, or set of biomarkers, can definitely be used to diagnose any of the dementias. But ... the results might give him some new clues about what's going on.

Has anyone suggested that you go to Mayo Clinic, in Rochester MN or Scottsdale AZ? They do a lot of research on autoimmune disorders causing cognitive dysfunction. Rochester has the largest Behavioral Neurology Department. In Scottsdale, there are two, Drs Richard Caselli and Bryan Woodruff. Dr Caselli publishes a lot on this subject.

Or perhaps your doctors could consult Dr Caselli.

Sorry I didn't respond to you earlier- I didn't see your post.

Hi, Sierra, How are you doing? How are things at home? Are the children being cared for properly? I hope you have found help for yourself and your family.

I have not seen Brittany in the chat room lately and I haven't seen her use the message boards. I know her family has the flu. Probably she'll be back in the chat rooms when everyone is recovered.

Please, keep in contact and let us know how you are doing.

Iris L.
