Three days ago I awoke to ants in my kitchen. I was able to get rid of the ants, locate the scents that attracted them, move everything, sanitize all surfaces with ammonia and bleach (not at the same time, of course), and then put everything back. I knew what to do and could function, thanks to six months of Exelon patch and four months of Namenda and sufficient pain relief.

Before I began these meds, I can't remember exactly when, I was confronted with a flat tire and my mind went blank. I had no idea what to do. My neighbor had to prompt me to call the Auto Club. At that time I seriously worried about my ability to live independently, because I feared I could not handle daily situations and any emergencies that might come up.

My sleep is out of control. My new sleep medication, Xyrem, has made me be able to do more chores around the house, but I believe it has had a negative effect on my cognition. I am reading and writing less, almost nothing.

Things are piling up again. I need help, but the help I have doesn't help. Ive hired a geriatric care manager and a wellness coach. The Cognitive Rehabilitation Therapist helps the most.

I'm getting overwhelmed again. I need to take a break.

Iris,

Those ants would have thrown me for a loop! I think you did well.

How often do you see the cognitive rehab therapist? Perhaps you need more visits?

Do you have someone that comes in your home once a day to check on you?? Family of friends??

Take some deep breaths! Again! What kind of a break do you need?? Is this something you can set up??

Please, keep us posted.

Peace and Hope,
Lisa

Iris, you're doing great!! You accomplished the novel challenge of getting rid of the ants. Yay! I think we're entitled to celebrate all our victories, regardless of how big we might think they are.

We need new eyes, to see our present situations.

You've identified you need a break? That's rare among dementia folks, so again, you've accomplished something else. Lisa gave you wise counsel about taking a break.

You're working with people, in a way I think is new to you? Way cool, and I hope you'll be patient with yourself as you learn your boundaries.

Hi Iris,

Conquering the ants is a big deal. Heck even making a dent in them is big in my book.

As they say, "little bit, little bit." Doing a little bit at a time rather than the whole big task is easier to accomplish, at least for me.

Take care.

Yeah, Iris.
One step at a time for control return. Good step. Just hate ants. lol
Take care and keep that positive attitude going.
