I see so many posts that ask, "Why me?" or "Why my loved one". There is no accurate reason. According to statistics only 8-10% of cases are heriditary and the other 90-92% are other causes such as trauma, strokes, alcoholism, etc. Many, many cases are unknown as to why a person gets dementia. A healthy diet is preached but what about those that have been on healthy diets all of their lives? Many of us are just the chosen I guess, especially those in the early stages. I truly believe that it is our job to help those that will follow in our footsteps through this journey so to speak. It is so hard when first diagnosed, you grasp at anything and everything looking for an answer or someone to guide you. I guess that would be called hope. Hope is all that we have after a diagnosis of dementia whether it be EOAD, FTD, VaD, LBD, Etc. Hope that maybe the doctors are wrong and there is another answer, one that can be fixed. But for dementia the only fix if medications, LOTS of understanding from our loved ones, LOTS of patience and most of all, we still need to be loved. Don't give up on us because we can no longer do the things we use to or are no longer the person we use to be. Think about if the tables were turned, hopefully we would be there for you as well. To each of you, you are always in my prayers.

Tracy

Younghope--thank you for your words of encouragement. You are truly an inspiration as you deal with this illness at such a young age. My prayers are with you; and I pray for strength and patience as my husband and I face this challenge too.
