I would like to start a home health care business for seniors.
I am looking for more information as far as what licenses, requirements, etc are needed. I am in Florida.
We would hire licensed nurses etc to go to their homes.
Also to be accepted by Medicare, Medicaid, etc.
And any other helpful info.

If you're in Florida, why does your profile say Texas? (Just curious.)

I would suggest that you start off by seeking help from small business coalitions where you live -- for example, there may be a SCORE chapter there. You have a major learning curve ahead of you!!!

Here's a link to the website of the SCORE chapter where I live, so you can see what the national SCORE program is all about:

https://www.score-sandiego.org/index.asp

I found this by googling:

SCORE "small business" "san diego"

Also, check out the US Small Business Administration website:

You might also look into whether there is a company that offers such services that would give you a franchise. I don't know how these particular companies work, but check into Granny Nannies, Visiting Angels, Right At Home, Comfort Keepers, and Home Instead.

A good start would be to contact the licensing boards and oversight agencies for Florida. They can put you in touch with the agencies thata can provide you with all the mandates such an agency would have to meet and explain licesure, bonding, etc. issues you would have to deal with.

And of course, the suggestion of going with a Franchise, you would have guidance in all aspects of starting such a business.

To Michelle: Do you have any professional experience? nursing, social work, medical facility administration, etc.? Do you have any experience working with Alzheimer's? Have you been or are you now a caregiver? Have you made out a business plan? This will help you clarify your goals.

Iris L.

I am my own caregiver.
