Hi,
I was just wondering about social security disability medicare. Is there such a thing?? Someone told me that if you are younger than 65 and have been determined by medicare to be disabled that after 2 years you are eligible for medicare. Is ther any truth to this? I have tried to call my local medicare office numerous times but it is ALWAYS busy!

Need input, please help,

Peace and Hope,

Lisa

Lisa, applying for Social Security is far more difficult than anyone could believe, if not experienced with it. If you have knowledgeable friends who can help you, great. I don't, so I'm using a company that will take a small percentage of the initial award, that's all it will cost me. Some attorneys also do this, and they're also limited to the same charges.

I have worked with SSA system for years so I hope this helps..... Applying can be difficult or easy ... meaning that so much is up to whether diagnosis is clear cut. Anyway , go ahead and apply for Social Security as soon as possible because the date of application can matter later on. You may be turned down on your first attempt. Something like 66% get turned down. At that point get a Social security lawyer to start working with you. The amount they can collect has a cap to it and they can only collect if SSA is awarded. Most everything from that point is done by attorney. Remember also that as time goes by. usually condition becomes clearer and decision will likely be inyour favor . Anyway, if awarded two dates will become important. Date that work stopped and date of application. Ex. My husband left work in 2005 and applied for disability. At first he was turned down. In 2007 we won on appeal and he was awarded funds back two years. We recieved it in one lump sum and SSA had already paid the lawyer.Medicare comes along with SSA ... you will not have to apply for that , but it does have a two year waiting period if you are under 65. But again by the time we actaully got on SSA that waitng period had gone by.
Just be aware that under 65 it will not be cheap to get supplemental Insurance or Drug coverage for medicare..
Hope this helps.
Also, if you want to talk to Medicare I call at really off hours. But again go to SS first.

Hi,
Thanks for all the information! I have applied for social security disability because my Long Term Disability insisted! I am currently receiving long term disability thru my work policy. I'm ready to fight if I have to!

Thanks again,

Lisa

Dear Lisa - I am 61 years old have have applied with a law firm for Social Security. They will do the work. Hoever all medical and reports must be paid by you. I made the mistake of mailing a work history back to Social Security. All mailings and filings go to your case worker and they do the leg work for you.

I was fired from work in November, 2007. I am on 20 mg of Namenda and 10 mg of Aricept Daily and just trying to keep an active mind.

If you need some more infoe please contact me jyawnick@comcast.net
