My husband, 57 yrs. old is showing signs of AD. His mother and 2 aunts have passed away with this.
Does anyone know where we can get a PET scan done without having to sell our home. We have no medical insurance. We are willing to travel.

Sorry to hear about your husband. My husband had EOAD and has not had a PET scan. They are very expensive. Do you have a neuroligist you can go to? Is there a hospital near you that will take uninsured people like yourselves? There are many other tests for a diagnosis beside a PET scan. You could also go to a neuropsycoligist to have memory testing done.

I can take him to the neuroligist that I used for my MIL. She had AD and and lived with us for 6 years. I was her caregiver so he will remember me. I am not sure what a neuropsycoligist is and how they test? I will also check the hospitals.

Thanks bunches

We had to pay out of pocket for my husband's PET scan at our local university. It was about $1500.00. You might be able to work out a payment plan with your local hospital. It is usually used along with other tests like those administered by a neuropsychologist to confirm the diagnosis. Good luck.

FWIW, my wife's EOAD was not confirmed by X-ray, MRI, neuropsychological testing, or anything else. When her docs all agreed that they needed the PET scan, the result was stunning. Even they were surprised by the degree of damage this scan revealed. From that point, they have treated her for AD without question.
