A post not about my mother, go figure. I felt horrible yesterday. It was my nephew's 11th birthday. I forgot to send him a card and a gift. Talk about guilt, I never felt guilt like that before. When I finally got around to calling him (a little later in the evening I might add), he told me that no one sang to him because the kids thought they were all too old and too cool. So I sang my heart out to him. He was so appreciative that someone sang to him. He enjoyed my singing (must be tone deaf) and he thanked me. OMG, what a great kid. He also knows that my sister and I are under so much stress with dealing with "Grandma", he's the most forgiving and thoughtful kid ever.

My mother always gives my nephew money for his birthday. He's at the age where money is "the greatest thing ever!". My plan was to send a card from "Grandma" with the amount of money that she would normally send. My sister had the idea to do the same thing. Luckily we both didn't do it or else he definitely would have known (kids are way too smart nowadays). He didn't want to take the money because he knows "Grandma" is having a hard time and she probably needs the money more than he does.

Where did this kid come from?

great story...children are our light..thats how I always refer to my 5yr old grandaughter...no one is ever as happy to see me as she is..her face literally lights up and she yells Grammy! Grammy! My daughter gets so ticked after she comes back from spending time with me because she always says "My Grammy said..." Big Grin She is truly my light and I love being in her world..such a better place and so much fun...

I am sure this fine young man does that for you. I would send him a gift card and let him pick out something special for himself..or maybe since he liked your singing you could send him one of those new hallmark cards where you can record your own voice!!! Wouldn't that be a hoot...anyway glad he made you feel better for awhile and you made him feel good too...YAY!

Are you going out with "Big Jerk" tonite?

I'll send him a gift card. It will just extend his birthday.

Yep, going out with "Big Jerk" tonight. I hope I stay awake. Had a champagne breakfast. It's been YEARS since I drank champagne. Needless to say, I need a nap.

Marj's nephew is my son. Thank you for those kind words. I, too, was impressed that he didn't want to take the money. I hadn't realized how much he really understood about our mother's situation. Children are much more aware than we give them credit for.

Marj and Pieberry,

You should be very proud of your nephew and son. He has learned by your love and example and will continue to learn how to treat people with you as role models.

My mother was primary caregiver for her father, mother, uncle and husband. We will return the favor to her with love.

Hey Kim, the date was fine. He wasn't being jerky at all, what a surprise.

I'm also watching football today. I'm a big Jets fan. I'm not expecting them to be great this year, but I would love another win. I still have high hopes for Mark Sanchez, I think he will be great in another year or two.

Marj and pieberry, what a wonderful young man! Easy to see the direction his heart is looking! And I agree with the others - he learned by your examples.

And to the football fans - in a perfect world, we can say "it doesn't matter whether you win or lose, it's how you play the game". The caveat to that is "unless it's football - especially in Texas!" LOL
