Hi there. This is my first post :-). I'm looking for recommendations on an assisted living ==> full-care facility in San Jose / Silicon Valley.
My father has been diagnosed with moderate AD and now needs 24 x 7 care. My sister and I are caring for him at home now. My father has long-term care insurance which covers roughly 1/2 the daily cost for assisted living and full-time care. We'd like to identify a facility as soon as possible so we're not scrambling when we need it (financially, mentally and physically). Here are some things to factor in: 1. My father is an introvert and doesn't have "hobbies" apart from reading, working in the yard, fixing things, or helping out at church. He's joins if drawn in. 2. My mother passed away (ALS) 6 years ago. He's been increasingly depressed / inert since then (esp now with AD) but does well when engaged. 3. He's a devout Christian and believe he / we'd be happiest with a Christian facility but not an absolute. 4. I live in San Jose and work in Santa Clara and Menlo Park. Would ideally like someplace close to my home but further north or south is ok if better facility. 5. We'd like a place that has both AL and Full-care facilities to avoid another move. Could be, though, that by the time he's taken in he'd need just NH. Thank you in advance for your help. We got the final diagnosis from his neurologist on Tuesday this week. Not a surprise but that is ALL we learned from him. I am so grateful that I have someplace to turn help and answers. Rebecca Rebecca H rrllhh@earthlink.net Roseville, CA with Dad |

Hi Rebecca,
We live in Gilroy and my MIL is living at "Village Green" in the Memory Care Center. They have just opened another LARGE building (mostly assisted living, I think - not sure). As for a religious facility, we looked into one several years ago (we had to try for a LONG time to have them accept they could no longer live alone) in Salinas. It's a Catholic group and I believe nuns in need retire there as well as being open to others. I don't remember the name but if you "Google" Assisted Living/Salinas/Catholic - I'll bet you'll find it. The one in Gilroy "Village Green" has a website. |
