As I have said before I'm new at this caregiving. I am so scared of the future. I've tried to get some answers from my mothers doctor as to where she is in this disease. I figured out that my mother scored a 15 on the MMSE. She is 78 and has a high school education earned thru a GED when she was in her mid 30's. So I think the normative value for her would be a 27. So does that make her at the 50% mark in her dementia? Is a 15 bad? I hope someone can give me some idea.
Kathy,in my opinion this test is very flawed. If your mom was not good in math, she won't do as well as someone who was, for example. That has nothing to do with her AD or how far she went in school. Again, this is my opinion. My husband scored 13 last year and is still fairly functional in many ways. I simply would not be too concerned with it, If she had had many tests from the beginning, then it might show a decline pattern.
Trouble and the Grace to bear it, come in the same package.
