Please help me i am new to this care thing and my MIL gets up everynight after going to bed and puts her shoes back on. When you try to see why she says "they" are coming to get her in a little while. When you ask who she replies "you know" and wont answer any more than that. It is very fustrating because i do not know enough about the disease. My husband get fustrated with me because i am mad. I do not know what to do. She wakes up with crazy stories and its hard to deal with. any suggestions will be helpful and any sites you have found helpful i would love to get address for. thank you

Since you're new to this, you may the First Steps article helpful:

http://alzheimers.boomja.com/C...rst-Steps-61311.html

Also, Jennifer Ghent-Fuller's article, "Understanding the Dementia Experience":

http://alzheimers.boomja.com/A...xperience-59731.html

And Coach Broyle's Playbook:

http://www.alzheimersplaybook.com/

The link for the free .pdf is in the upper right-hand corner of the page

"Anosognosia" is a symptom many ADLOs develop, which makes them unaware that they have problems ... and therefore think that they don't need any help:

http://alzheimers.boomja.com/A...osognosia-32271.html

It sounds as if your MIL is either "sundowning" or experiencing some sort of sleep disturbance. Both are common for ADLOs.

There's a good article on how to cope with sundowning at:

http://alzheimers.boomja.com/A...undowning-31322.html

And one on dealing with sleep disturbances at:

Hi,
I just wanted to let you know that my grandma always has to have her shoes too. Sometimes she goes to bed with them on and if she takes them off she puts them under her pillow. Someone might steal them you know. Real shoes are gone and the deerfoam house shoes have taken their place. Soft to sleep on and easy to wash when they get wet.
I had almost forgotten but she used to come up with some really interesting stories. My favorite was when Santa Clause came and visited her in the middle of the night. He sat at the foot of her bed and talked to her.

I never thought it would happen to her!

A while ago, I replaced mom's carpet with linoleum so cleanup's were easier.

I did not realize how much she wore her shoes until then. (all I hear is her pacing)...

I simply try to take the shoes out of her room at night. She has gripper socks and slippers.
