I went to Mission Hospital last week and picked up medical records. I want to read them for myself (too many years in the business, I guess).

The Neurology consultation says dad "has dementia with predominatly aphasic type of Alzheimer's disease. His pet scan showed the patient had global hypometabolism not typical for alzheimer's disease...no etiology found. He was being very unaggressively treated at this time although at this stage of dementia, it is unlikely that any specific therapy would be of great benefit."

So there it is. Not specifically AZ but... Same boat different paddle.

My dad's PCP diagnosed him with Alzheimer's about 3 1/2 years ago. I had suspected and my mom and I had talked about it several times before she passed away. But after he had a T.I.A. and she died, the disease progressed. His PCP said that we couldn't be sure that it was Alzheimer's until an autopsy confirmed it, but since his brother had AD and his mother had "hardening of the arteries", he was fairly sure this is what it is.

The PCP said that it would be treated the same way. He was started on Namenda. A year or so later, he was evaluated by a Pychiatrist and put on Aricept. He has been put on Respirdal and the Celexa has now been changed to Remeron.

So I guess that is where we all are. Same boat - different paddle.

Yes, it does seem that they treat all of these dementia's the same. Now I'm dealing with his muscles locking. It's very painful in his knees.
