I saw the preview. My first thought was that the "controversial treatment" is palliative care/comfort care only. We'll see.

I just watched it. It just repeated what was in the New York Times article about advanced dementia being a terminal disease and doctors shouldn't put the patients through painful treatments to prolong the disease, since it's a terminal disease. It also advocates hospice care. It really repeated what was the article last week. Honestly, do any of us on here not realize that this is a terminal disease?

yeah marj..not what I thought it was going to be...I am glad the mainstream media seems to be giving a "little" more attention to this awful disease but as we all know we have a very long way to go in educating people...I am grateful that my parents have their wishes in writing so I don't have to guess or fight with a certain sibling about it...like this woman in the report said she has to "guess" what her mom would want...

My mother also put her wishes down in writing, in her health care proxy. She did this long before the AD monster showed it's ugly head. She also told me time and time again that she wants to be cremated. I'm glad I won't have to make those decisions.
I really wish there was a way to get more public education about this horrid disease. I think I'm going to write to my congress people. It can't hurt.

I agree Marjk, maybe if we all write a letter every week. Maybe then we can get some attention. I wish there was something else we as a group could do. I was trying to think of a way to get into the schools and get a group of people together to speak nationally. There are plenty of children and teens that have been effected by this. My son is 15 and helps me with the care of my Dad. Just throwing some ideas out there. Any Thoughts??

I have seen the "Lisa" film and forwarded it to several family and friends...its very very good and the way its done is simple and the lil actress is great..the impressions in each scene were strong but not scary...most of the general public is so scared of AD they just ignore it or think it can be solved with a pill like the marketing campaigns of aricept and such...
We just have to keep speading the word.

You'd be surprised at the people who don't know, don't care or can't grasp that AD is fatal. Otherwise, we'd never put our ADLO's through some of the barbaric things we do to prolong their lives. I'm talking about feeding tubes and stuff like that.
