Last night, I stumbled upon a documentary on Link TV (channel 375 on DirecTV) called "Complaints of a Dutiful Daughter." It is listed as a documentary made in 1996. The description says "Filmaker Doborah Hoffman comes to terms with her mother's advancing Alzheimer's disease."

I didn't see all of it, but what I saw was very good and well worth watching. It will be on again today, May 22, and May 24 and 25.

Link TV is trying to raise money for it's programming but even with that, you might want to check it out.

I googled this..it sounds real good...

"This is the best film about Alzheimer's disease that I've seen, and I've seen quite a few...I too would have nominated Complaints of a Dutiful Daughter for one of the year's best documentaries."
Gene Siskel
Chicago Tribune

"Unflinchingly honest...a film that will give hope to Alzheimer's caregivers as well as early-stage Alzheimer's patients."
Marcia Freedman
American Society on Aging

"Hoffmann has made a loving, optimistic and authentic film about her mother, and the struggles to adjust to the changes wrought by Alzheimer's disease"

I googled it, too. It does sound very interesting. There are several sites that show the trailer, and/or an interview with Deborah Hoffman. I don't think it will be showing here, though. AND it is awfully expensive to purchase!

Thanks for goggling it and adding those comments. It really is a remarkable film and shows what one of the members here is fond of saying. It is what it is. It showed how she learned to enter her mom's reality. If Mom said it was April and it was May, so what? If Mom thought she was one of her sorority sisters from college, she would engage her in a conversation about it.

I wish I would have seen this when my Mom was diagnosed in 1998, and not now when she's been gone for over 2 months. I had never heard of Link TV before, and it was really by happenstance I stumbled upon it. The title sounded intriguing so that's when I saw what it was about.

I just today watched this on LINK (DirecTV) and was stunned by the honest candor and startling sameness of her mom's behaviors to mine. And it's only $30, Maebee. Or MAYBE if we all wrote and requested they air it again, they would? I was laughing out loud at events that had me in tears when it was MY mom, I think because it was SO true and SO familiar! She describes several "periods", like the Dentist Period (when her mom would visit the dentist every day) and the Banana Period (self-explanatory). She refers very briefly to "hostility" but apparently the camera wasn't around on those days.
I've not seen another film of actual AD patients instead of actors before.

I love this documentary. Smiler I see a lot of my mom in the begining esp w/ the obsessive behavior. I used to work in the recreation dept of a nh and this was used as an inservice tool often. I need to get a copy of this for my sister. I found my head nodding yes so often, during the different segments. yup the banana episode for me turned out to be cheese and shoes for my mom.

I just saw it this week. I thought it was so well done. If you get the chance to see this, do!
