...until she goes to bed, then she's like a toddler, really crashes to sleep or is up and down a few times over an hour or so.
During the day something is always moving, either rubbing hands together, hands on legs, clenching fingers together, doing a little chewing thing with her lower jaw, and sometimes humming a three note tune. Combine these with the up and down and back and forth from the chair to the calendar to the patio doors...aargh! |

So sorry Grem, you might think about the drugs. They changed Pat's dosage and he is more settled. Bless you boy. You are the best and she would tell you that if she could. Gentle hugs, friend.

Gremlin,
Nice to see you back here again. Haven't seen you post lately and I was wondering where you've been. My Mom used to do similar things. Drove me nuts!!! However, I have to admit I kind of miss it now that she's at a stage where she can't do it. Can't win, can we? We're driven crazy by their antics, but once they reach a new level of this disease, we miss those same things that drove us nuts. Take a deep breath, tomorrow's another day! |

My mother would do that too. Constant movement. My mother had two speeds, speedy and sleep. She was the most sedentary woman before this disease. I don't know if it's a transitioning stage or just a different part of the brain being affected.
Good luck with this Gremlin, I know it's hard. Is it possible for you to find something for your mother to do that will keep her occupied as to not constantly be on the go? Drawing maybe? The only thing (of course I didn't think of drawing at the time) that kept my mother calm and not moving (oh the snapping of the fingers too, CONSTANTLY, I forgot about that) was when she had a dog cuddling on her lap. Of course my dog became afraid of her - quite bizarre but quite telling if you think about it - so I would borrow the most cuddly dog from a neighbor. This dog would just jump into my mother's lap and cuddle with her. |

Gremlin,
My Mom, the Ancient Toddler, does this, too. Gloves on, gloves off; socks off, socks on. Hands stroking the arms of her chair over and over and ... One of my kids used to do this when he was fighting sleep; I sometimes wonder if this is why A.T. is so fidgety? What I know about this stupid disease fits under my little fingernail with room to spare. Take care and bless you abundantly for caring for your Mom. It is what it is. |

And I've quoted your Ancient Toddler to many people I've talked with Mom about and they all laugh and giggle a bit and say 'that's spot on'! What I used to know about these symptoms used to fill the navel of a gnat with enough room left over for the Rose Bowl, but I'm learning thanks to great people like you and the others here on the boards! |

Hey Gremlin,
Has her medication be evaluated recently? She may need a tweek or two. Mother was doing this also but after being in hospital she is a little calmer. She is on seroquel, deproko spinkles, cymbalta and a pain patch and exelon patch...that I think is best. Seems to have given her some names from recent past and she knows mine and brothers. In this life we cannot do great things. We can only do small things with great love. Mother Teresa |

Its called "stressful anxiety/anxiousness,,,,and there are meds to help alleviate that.
First check for UTI,,and if thats not positive,,then request that the Dr give some Ativan or Xanax. Either one should help with the restlesness and anxiousness. Or,,has any new medications been started recently? Or has the dosage of one of her meds been increased? |
