BUrn out, time!!!! All her cussin', all the endless requests to go potty (every 15 minutes during the night until about 2AM),now not hungry so I juggle dinner and EnsurePLUS, all the sleeping.

Is there anything that should be done about her apetite or deal with what's happening.

Mom has stroke dementia. Most of the time can't recognize me and that's OK but her yelling and cursing me is getting old.

Now, if I can't/won't get up to get her to the potty at the immediate request she bangs on the headboard and yells bloody murder. Shall I get PowerGrip construction adhesive for her knuckles at the Home Depot?

Any advice or views very appreciated. Chipmunk

Have her checked for a Urinary Track infection immediately. If that checks out ok. Find the best geriatric Physc. around to help you out so you can get a good night sleep. I am realizing that some of my dad's restlessness was he had an iffection and did not run a temp or really complain at all. The phyc dr has him medicated enough for us to get a good night sleep.

Hi Brighday,

Thanks for the advice. Surprised he didn't have a temp with the UTI. I'll check the geriatric psych about the yelling. As a matter of fatc, just put her to bed at 10:30PM and she started with the potty then complained about sitting up because her back was hurting and I even had her sit in the recliner thinking it would help but she complained she wanted to be in bed so now, it'safter midnight and although she's in bed she's yelling to sit up. Ah, the knuckles on the headboard pounding. Anyone have construction adhesive, out there? Just kidding but tempting!!!
Thanks again for the advice.

ER doc said many times old folks don't and they can't tell you what is going on. Back pain complaints may also point in that direction. Hope you get a good night sleep soon.

Have her checked for a UTI,,but also,,you don't need a physciatrist! Just call her primary care Dr or nuerologist,,and get her on the proper medication to help alleviate her moods.

I don't know what stage she is in,,,although thats really not all that important,,but if she is taking Aricept and Namenda,,both of those can be a definated contributor to the moods...it depends on what type of dementia she has.

A call to the Dr should help with getting some meds for releif for your Mom,,and also you. Request a mild dose of Ativan for her to take at night,so she will sleep,,and so you can get some sleep. Best of luck,,Peace
