Here we go again! The snow started about 10AM and has only gotten worse as the day goes on. The weather man is saying that we could get as much as 2 1/2 feet in our area. That is by tomorrow morning. The storm is going to last through Sunday so who knows what will happen this time.

It is only a little past 6PM and the elders have decided that they are going to bed. I guess the dark and dreary makes it seem like later.

So far we have not had any mood or attitude this time. Thank goodness! They know we have restocked the frige and have lots of holiday leftovers so are not worring about getting out.

The good neighbors have checked in and told them that they will be taking care of the plowing and digging out as soon as we give them a call. They said they just wanted us to know if we need anything that they would be willing to help.

Dad has been checking the window to see how much snow is outside but has not become obsessed with it like last time. I hope this continues through the duration.

If anyone needs a little of the white stuff, you can come to Colorado. Just dont try to fly as they are already canceling flights. From what I hear the airport was just getting back to normal from last weeks storm and being closed for 49 hours. Funny thing is when they built the new airport, the big thing was that it would never close. I dont think they factored in mother nature though.

Well everyone stay warm and dry. I will keep you posted.

I remember in 1978, I believe, I brought my husband's mom to stay with us. The next day we had a blizzard and were shut in for two weeks with no utilities. It was a real lesson in patients! LOL!

Vicki, my brother lives in Colorado and has a 7 year old with a new bike (Christmas) and two weeks off from school, who of course has not been able to go outside with the bike yet, and who is riding it in circles in the basement and checking out the windows for The Miracle Of The Disappearing Snow so she can ride outside. Needless to say, driving her parents bonkers - I can't begin to imagine how you're feeling! :-)

My heart certainly goes out to you. Those storms have been brutal and not something you needed to add to your plate...
Hope all is well,

What a day!

The Queen Mother woke me at 5:30AM wanting to know if I had made coffee yet. They usually dont get up till 7:30 so no I was sleeping and not making coffee. When I told her that I had not her response was "Well make it, I am cold."

After she was finished in the bathroom, I got up and made coffee. She was back in their bedroom so I thought she was dressing. When she didnt come back to the kitchen I went looking for her. She was in bed sound asleep. Didnt get up till 8:00. The only thing I can figure is that she was still asleep when she demanded her coffee.

After breakfast and many discussions about the paper being delivered or not I told Dad to look out in the entry way to see if the neighbor had put it inside the door. He looked out and informed me that the only thing Lee did was pile up the snow in front of the house. He said there was a huge pile right outside the door. LOL it was the car covered with snow. Lee hasent been out with his plow yet. Roll Eyes

I can tell this is going to be a fun day. It seems that everything that either one of them says is funny to me. I guess that it is a good thing to try to keep a sence of humor because they are saying this is going to last till Sunday.

When I asked Mom about the coffee demand at breakfast she insisted that I was dreaming because she didnt even get up till 8:00. She told me that it must have been somebody else then. She has done this type thing before so I am not worried that she is loosing her mind.

The elders have settled down with the TV so it looks like things are going to be quiet for awhile. The snow is letting up right now but who knows. One minute it isn't snowing and the next it is snowing and blowing. I am just happy we are in where it is warm and dry.

Send some down here, I am sick of having the AIR on in this, the end of December! Although today IS a beautiful day & we have it off, (& therefore I should NOT complain, I know- I know- I know) it WAS really weird having the AC on Christmas Day. That was a new one, even for us here in Florida.

Sorry Vicki, but your post makes me so homesick for the snow!! But I KNOW it is not easy for you, and that you must be going bonkers. I DO remember those days of being shut in with the kids... you have my sympathies!

vicki: what time do you want the little ladies??? now keep in mind they are experienced with dementia/altzheimers....they have been very well trained by my mom & love to hang with the "elderly" --- so they can also strech the truch abit for the Queen and her but she tends to have allergies so requires special meals but as I recall so do your royal highnesses' Big Grin Roll Eyesloyal subjects...they are also used to their own mom being blamed for things missing (please remember I'm "somebody took this or that") however, with the planes....

they are jealous of you "snow" people anyway --- they were a little miffed that last week you got snow...my hubby is good friends with the ups guy & he said that if we ever wanted to all we need to do to ship mom to my sisters house is a shipping label...I'm sure the same would work for the girls...now if you could throw in a few little pugs to go with the snow....you are set to go.....of course our golden receiver might want to go herself (she loves snow & attention) but she can be a little on the mean side to anything that could take away attention from her in the animal kingdom..... and point I might add to make this sound even better!!!! she is considered GERATRIC!!!! and has been around others living in assisted living and THEY LOVE HER!!!!!!

The snow has stopped but nothing is moving around here yet. Mom didnt go to sleep till after 4:30AM so both elders are sleeping in today. I am not looking forward to her waking up as she usually is in a very bad mood when she has a sleepless night.

Vicki:

I am so sorry you are getting the snow. But please don't send it on down highway 70 to MO> I hate the "white stuff" and really hate the ice & sleet. We have not had bad weather this winter but the tough months- Jan, Feb & March are yet to come.

Have a good day if you can.

Dear Vicki,
Thank goodness you still have your TV, sense of humor, AND your computer, so you can tell us these stories. I can almost visualize what is going on there.
Here, in Michigan, a green Christmas, with no snow in sight. Mid 40s probably for another week. Thunderstorms predicted for tomorrow! Oh, the woes of the ski hills, the toboggan runs, etc.!
Like Pat, I am now worried about the months to come.
Saw this wooden plaque on line, and could not resist:

Pat,

Sorry, too late! Just before dark tonight, we were plowed out by the neighbor. There is so much snow piled up from the street out front that I had him load up a big truck full and send it your way. Big Grin

Maebee,

Thank you for the sign. I think I will hang it right over her recliner. Razzer

Today has been interesting. All of the kin folk have been comming out of the woodwork and calling or comming by. These are people we have not talked to for months or years and for some reason they all decided to check up on the elders today.

First, my Dads BIL from New Mexico called. I call him DAddy Warbucks. He wanted to chat about how much snow we have and then tell me how much money he made in the stock market during the 1990"s.

After that he had to tell me about his new girlfriend. My aunt passed away in Nov. of 2003. He is 91 years old and the girlfriend is a young 83. I think he was laying the groundwork for something to come. I say more power to him!

This uncle was always talked about by Dad's sisters as being a terrable person. Nothing he did was fair or right for Aunt Nellie. (According to Aunt Ruth and Aunt Nettie) I never really liked him that much but he stuck by Nellie all during her dementia. When she reached the later stages he did move her to a nursing home for three weeks and then moved her right back home. He did all of the caregiving mostly by himself and took very good care of her. Now that I am a caregiver, I realize what he did for her and thanked him for taking such good care of Nellie.

After his call, my nephew called to say he was almost in our area and wanted to know if it would be OK to stop by to see Grandma & Grandpa. They didnt even recognize him, it has been so long since he has been here. At least 5 years or more. We had a nice visit.

Then my girlfriend called from Texas. She has been down there for a month to see her daughter and just wanted to check on the weather. She was fighting with hubby and daughter and really just needed to vent.

Right after Mom & Dad went to bed, my Bozo brother, the retired plumber showed up with Mom & Dad's Christmas gift. He lives about 17 miles from us and this is only the second time he has been here in a year. If he would check in once in awhile, he would know that the elders go to bed with the chickens and sleep-in in the mornings. He also could have called to let them know that he was comming so they could stay up.

When we were having plumbing problems with the water heater, I called to ask him if he had any suggestions about what we could do. He jumped down my throat and informed me that he didn't do plumbing now that he is retired. Not even for his own Dad! Needless to say, I did not visit with him. He got the hint and only stayed for 20 minutes. His duty is done for another year! Mad

Well this is about all for today. Now that we are plowed out, we will be able to get out and about tomorrow. Dad loves to ride in the car so after breakfast, I plan on taking them for a ride to see the snow and get some fresh air. I think we could all use the change.

If anyone would like a truck full of snow I would be glad to send you one. Or if you like to ski, you could come and ski down the slopes of the piled up snow by the driveway.

vicki: my daughters.....you never let us know! Remember they do have good experience---after all between my mom and my sibs seems like they could fit in...one dauther will even send nasty nasty e-mails to family~~~ Razzer Of course this will anger some and they will blame you Roll Eyes for putting such thoughts in their heads....no one will understand that at their age they do understand what they see & hear.... Smilerand will call them on it...

and if you could just purchase a few little pugs.....(with all that extra money...perhaps you dad has some extra quarters...I know they run about $1,000.00 hear so perhaps you could start counting them out??? Roll Eyes)

I do have to thank you so much--gotta say I look forward to the update daily now on the elders (i.e.,the Queen Mother... Smiler

This morning I've already spoken to my mom and she is right on target which can be good or bad depending on the subject matter. Today she wants (as usual) to go to the bank...doesn't matter that they are closed--she just wants to "write a check" for some much needed money--she finds such joy in having it and counting it!just becomes major problems when she hides it--- Frowner lucky for me I have the detectives.....take care and keep warm......
--I think we are in a few days of possible "dry out mode" till next week and then the rains are back. I often wonder on my drive to moms how bad it is for the horses standing in ponds/river(?) of water....but then I always feel sorry for them in the rain and wind as well. seems like a cold job for them.

Jena: every summer and the bugs come out everyone always says "well we didn't have a cold enough winter"---I'm stil trying to figure out how long it has to be cold to kill all of the added spiders and stuff....we have had so much rain, wind, ice and snow in the Pacific N.W. this year..........I'm hoping that if the cold didn't kill them that the rain will.....
