Hi everyone,
I haven't posted lately, but am still reading when I get the time. Just wanted to check in and give you some updates on Daddy and Me. Daddy is still doing fairly well. I have noticed some more changes with memory. It used to be that mornings were pretty good and his memory was better, but now he is slowly losing that too. He is definitely more confused now. I am having to remind him to do things (like brushing his teeth etc) more often. So some more changes with memory, which is to be expected. I asked his primary doctor for a cardiologist consult there at the VA. Dad had been seeing an outside Dr. for this. But, after my last visit with this arrogant, rude man, I will never go back. He ignored me and actually told me that my Dad didn't have AD. What!!! Anyway, met with a cardiologist at the VA last week. He is great and very thorough. Daddy is having some problems with low blood pressure and so he had a echocardiogram a couple of days ago. The VA is wonderful. I now have all his doctors in one place. Even a podiatrist to take care of his toenails (which he has problems with). I have also set Daddy up for the respite program at the VA. He is approved and will have his trial 3-day stay in early December. The first 21 days are free and then depending on the level of care, I will find out how much it will cost me for more. So, I will have 3 days and I am sure looking forward to them. As for me, I have continued my commitment of taking care of myself with regards to my health. When Daddy is at Day Care, I can make the necessary appts. So, I had an eye exam and got new glasses. I had a physical and blood tests. I had a mammogram. I am also continuing to see my psychiatrist and counselor regularly. Oh, I still have my anxieties, occasional panic attacks, grief, anger etc. It is definitely not all sunshine and roses, as you all know. I just feel good that I took care of those very overdue appts. Take care everyone! Jenn "Life is sustained by hope" |

Dear Jenn,
It's good to hear that you are taking care of yourself. Sounds like your Dad's decline is fairly normal although I know difficult to deal with. The VA sounds great and Respite! Wow! That's fantastic! I hope your Dad is up to the change. Thanks for the update. Please, continue to take take of yourself and keep us updated! Peace and Hope, Lisa check out my blog @ http://lcc-thoughtsfromtherollercoaster.blogspot.com/ |

Dear Jenn:
It is so good to hear from you. I think you are amazing! My goodness, you have got SO much done in such a short amount of time. You really know how to take care of business. Your father is blessed to have you by his side. It is wonderful to hear that your Dad's care is finally in order and is of high quality. That you have respite planned and nearly ready to go is another huge plus. Good for you. And most of all, you are doing far better than most of us in taking good care of you. You are a wonderful example to all of us here who can learn alot from you. Keep in touch and let us know how things are going, we will be thinking of you. Soft hugs and best wishes, Johanna C. |
