I know this is a very tough time for many caregivers when their LO is refusing to eat. We try & try but only get more & more frustrated and don't know what else to do. There are a few reasons why our LO refuses to eat. For those with Alzheimer's or form of, the link below will help to understand why.

Recognizing the dying process

Sarah12, thank you so much for the link. I have seen a lot of people on these boards so concerned about their LOs not eating.

I think the problem is that many people are just not ready to let their loved ones go.

I hope we can all accept that the only way our LOs will escape from this disease is by dying and not try to prolong their lives because we are not ready to let them go.

We're never ready to let go, we don't want to and it's tough doing it. We need to remember that this is the way it is and we can't stop the dying process.
It's hard but we must let go.

Thank you for the link Sarah 12. It is a great resource and lists others.

Another link that is posted here quite often and I have found very helpful is:

http://www.hardchoices.com/

The book can be read by clicking on the Complete Text (PDF) link. I read it and ended up purchasing a few to share with friends and family.

Having this kind of excellent information helps us make the hard decisions for our loved ones and plans for ourselves.

I am new to this chat. We have had our Dad at home with severe dementia for about 4 years now. He at times is refusing to eat, gets very sleepy. He also gets some thick secretions that make it hard for him to swallow. I am thinking he is on his way out. I just wish I knew how much longer this terrible ordeal is going to last.

Dear Grace, I'm going to start a new thread for you so you won't get lost in this thread and more people will respond to you.
