So far so good. He woke up this morning and took a nice hot bath, shaved for all the cute girls that were going to be there and off we go. We walked in armed with a book that my sister made for him explaining the entire family to all that will sit through it.

The lady in charge is wonderful. She is playing the game quite good. She gave me all the employee paperwork to help Dad fill out, even the tax forms. It was priceless. Dad then bantered back and forth with her and they decided on 300 a week pay. The checks will be cut on Friday and sent to my sister to help pay the bills. He will only get a portion of the cash to carry around in his wallet for haircuts, ice cream etc....She actually went out and purchased play around checks so that Dad will see his name on a check. She is wonderful.
I stayed for about 20 mins trying to introduce him to the others in the Daycare. Once I tried to leave he followed me so I sat down again. We started going through his family book and thankfully one of the girls came over to get his attention and I made the quick getaway.

I called every hour on the hour checking up on him and they told me he was doing GREAT!! Entertaining the troops with jokes, singing, table tennis, and a wonderful nature walk. In between hitting on all the women that work there, he finally settled down to a huge lunch. He ate good and was the class clown.

I watched the clock tick by until I finally got to pick him up at 3pm. He was very happy to see me. We didnt actually leave until 4pm. He wanted to stay and help clean up the place. So he wouldnt have to do it in the morning. As we walked out the door he asked the lady in charge if he could have a raise. Life is GREAT!!

That was so cute. Sounds like you have to be pretty creative to get one by your dad.

Daycare will be great for you and your dad.

Best regards.

I'm glad it went so well. Adult daycare is so awesome for so many people with dementia!

Creative is right and yes finally we pulled one off without Dad really knowing. Not sure how long he will buy into it but I will take all I can get at this point. He loves to socialize and I didnt feel like he was getting it from me. Tomorrow will be the test. We shall see and pray it all works out for him. He is such a cool guy and really loves to help! (as long as he thinks he is making a buck or two) Thanks for all the well wishes and God Bless us all!

Good Luck Rosemarie D. I hope Mom gets better soon and is able to go for her first day. It was absolutely like dropping off my baby for the first time. My fingers are crossed for you both.

Great post. I'd love to get my Dad into something like this, but he's not motivated to do anything and never wants to go anywhere. How can my mother and I get him off his butt?

Tell someone you love them, even if you don't think they'll remember...they will.

What a great post! It's wonderful that the day care staff is so dedicated and willing to go the extra mile.

My Dad thinks that the NH where he lives is a work place where all he gets is room and board. He doesn't understand why he doesn't see a paycheck every week. I told him that everything is done electronically nowadays and that his money goes into his account (LOL). Whenever meals are served or there is a social thing like ice cream being served, my Dad always wants to help by cleaning up and helping other residents.

I'm really happy that you've found such a great place for your Dad. Please keep us updated!

Great post!
My husband's doctor told him he needs to go to "therapy"( day care) and explained just as you need therapy if you break your leg, you need it for your memory problems. He was hesitant at first but is beginning to enjoy. Every now and then I remind him of what his doctor said and luckily he likes his doctor and wants to please him so he goes willingly.
