I just looked at Newsday web site. It mentioned seizures in late stage Alzheimers. Has anyone expierenced this with loved one?

Grace,

Hello and Welcome. Not all people experience seizures!

My mom had not had any.

Are you OK?

Perhaps others will respond to you too?!

Peace and Hope,
Lisa

Not everyone will have seizures at the end... but my uncle (with Alz) did in his last weeks-- that portion of his brain was affected and the seizures came frequently.

My mother has had 6 seizures over two and a half years--probably in stage 5 and 6. The first two terrified me and I called 911... Then I learned to handle them--which worked much better since there isn't much they can do for her in hospital and ER's are full of flus, etc.
She usually slept for 24 hours after the seizure...

We briefly tried seizure meds (Keppra) but the side effects--confusion, agitation and,for her, esophageal bleeding (she has gerd) were more problematic than the seizure.

Thanks for the response. My Dad probably had his first seizure about a month ago. My sister was with him at the time and the way she described the shaking and all it was a seizure. However, I was surprised the Hospice nurse did not know about the possibility for him to have one. At least know we know. Thanks again
