My heart breaks for my Mom, diagnosed eight years ago, county nursing home for year and a half. Saw her this past weekend - getting very thin and not eating. They are trying to give her some shake and yogurt. Seems totally gone - in and out of sleep - is this any indication that the end is nearing? How will I know?
God, this disease is so awful. I miss my Mom so much |

Alir, this is heartbreaking! The lack of food intake might indicate that she is declining. Have you considered calling hopsice? Even in the NH, they can be helpful, and can provide a lot of help to you, and support. Check with your nursing home on this as well.

My heart goes out to you. Yes it certainly sounds like she is nearing the end of this journey. May I offer some comfort in that I was with my dad when he passed and it was the most peaceful scene. He did not suffer or make a sound. He was in no pain or discomfort and at the last the most soft and peaceful countenance came over his face. Then he left us. May God grant you peace and strength as you go through this trial. Be At Peace James We live with someone named "AL ZEIMER." AL won't leave - - - D@mn AL Anyhow |

My mom passed a little over a week after she stopped taking liquids. She also went very peacefully. In fact, I was there and I felt that I sort of coached her into leaving this life for the next.I had help from my Creator with this. I know this sounds weird, but it was almost like giving birth -difficult, but in the end there is joy.
